[COM] Adelaide Airport T1 Terminal | $260m

#1 Post by Howie » Fri Jul 29, 2005 3:49 pm

By the end of 2005, Adelaide Airport will have the newest and most efficient aviation terminal in Australia, with a new $260 million state-of-the-art facility now under construction.

Incorporating the latest in design and technology, Adelaide's new terminal will service the needs of regional, domestic and international travellers from one building.

Freight handling and commercial facilities also will be expanded to support Adelaide's growing importance as a tourism and trade destination.

Construction of the new terminal began in November, 2003 and is progressing on target for completion in late 2005.

The new terminal is an initiative of the privately owned Adelaide Airport Limited (AAL), and will be owned and operated by AAL.

I heard that Ozjet has decided not to HQ here in Adelaide anymore or at least they're renegotiating. I thought it's a bit rich to ask for the same help from the Government when they've reduced the number of people they plan on hiring in Adelaide from 300 to 200. I remember someone saying "their offer has changed marketly" and I suppose it's only fair for any assistance to be reassessed.

Hope it'll be up and running before the meeting of the big-wigs arrives in Adelaide for that "alternative-to-kyoto" summit. It would make such a better impression for the media and visitors who will be covering that event.

The countdown on the frontpage.

Is that 72 days to full completion and 100% operational new terminal? or is staggered in some way?

I'm going to hold off thinking bout next trip over there until I know for certain I'll be flying into the new brand spanker ;)

Tays, mid October she'll be having the grand opening, don't know the exact date, but October she'll be showing off her new bits, so to speak. I found out that nearly half the cost was in interior features, like the Italian tiles and Jarrah features in the check in area. Pretty bloody, how you doon', if you don't mind me saying!
Walking on over....

That's just the countdown to the public opening. I'm not sure whether or not planes will be landing at the airport for certain, hopefully someone here can find out for us.

As for full completion, as far as i know, even when it's up and running it won't be 100% complete. There'll still be workers putting on finishing touches.

I'm going up to Shagney late november, I might come over there the week after, or just merge the two... mmmm yes.

btw, any word if it's going to get a new name? like KISA/Tullamarine or just good aulde Adelaide?

It'll be taking the name of the airport it's decommissioning... so it'll still be known as Adelaide Airport. :)

Thought maybe something like Adelaide International would be better or AIX as a nod to Los Angeles' LAX. :D

AIX sounds like a computer system :)

btw, Singapore airlines announced they'll have a 5th weekly flight after the opening of the new AIX ;)

First flight will be on the 31st October on the new airport.

[COM] Airport Tour - 11.8.2005

#15 Post by BradJC » Thu Aug 11, 2005 9:17 pm

Howdy guys,

I was privileged today to tour our awesome new airport! Still fair bit of work to be done. Below is some shots I took. :)

Image
This is the arrivals area (ground level). There are 4 carousels for domestic use.

Image
Carousel shot.

Image
Still the arrivals area, moving away from the carousels. Some good signage :)

Image
This is the international arrivals area. There is one dedicated carousel for international use.

Image
Departure area. Can't see the city in this shot, view is aweosme though.

Image
Seats. Not quite completely cushioned yet. :)

Image
This is one side of the retail area. The picture doesn't do it much justice, but it's a huge space. The shot was taken in the middle.

Image
Looking out to departure lounge from retail area. This entry is directly in the middle also.

Image
Check-in.

Image
Taken from the check-in area, looking forward to where security screenings will be. The retail area is simply just beyond the security.

Image
More check-in.

Image
Lucky last. Another angle from check-in area.[/img]
