Well, this development has subsided my grief (only for today at least) that I was feeling whilst riding near the city and looking at the shitpiece that is CC-poo.

It looks way less 80s and dated in those renders. Awes.

Lower levels have triple-glazed windows and upper levels double-glazed; an array of solar panels providing both power and hot water; all rainwater caught in garden beds, balconies and roof areas will be treated in an on-site grey-water system for flushing toilets and watering gardens; timber shutters on east and west windows; all good, useful features.

What a brilliant step forward for sustainable building design in Adelaide. This is usually the sort of steps that only larger and more significant structures tend to use (look up Bank of America Tower or One Bryant Park in New York, they also use rainwater that falls on the building for toilets and for cooling to provide air conditioning). It's great to see that developers and designers of smaller buildings look to go the distance in providing sustainable buildings as well.

They are perhaps some of the best quality and most honest renders we've seen of any development in Adelaide. Big tick for that. And on the whole, I like it. It would have been nice to have had a restaurant up top as Ho Really suggested, but the sound environmental features outweigh any disappointment about that. Let's just hope that it can have a 'lightbox' effect on our night skyline (which desperately needs it).

Pretty happy about this one so far. Its something genuinely different for the skyline and its engineering's interesting.

Like already commented on, with some external or back lighting around the solar panels they could become a trick night feature. Even during the day I'd prefer visible solar panels over a blank concrete wall that's for sure.

Add another 40 metres and a dedicated lightbox and I'll be stoked.

That does look better, though I hate the northern exterior.

i don't think they are grills. they are solar panels.

you can't beat that on the face of Adelaide. "Environmentally Conscious City"

We seem to always look up, but really; the most important is what happens at ground level. This is where most of use will engage with the development anyway. having said this, i am a tad concerned about the activation at grade level.

the frontage along Hindley Street appears fine, but what about along the side street? this does not seem to engage with the higher level of foot traffic (compared to other areas of Adelaide) i.e. people moving from Rail station to City and vice versa, and also the crowds that congregate Hindley and it's lanes after hours for entertainment purposes.

I don't like the slip lane for parking either along this street. It should rather be claimed for the pedestrian, at least it would have been better as an extended footpath with outdoor seating.

More attention should be given here. It needs an interactive street front also from it's side street so it is more lively, engaging, activates and attracts pedestrian usage, while also give a better notion of safety within this lane way.

My thoughts.

Unfortunately this hotel only has two street frontages. One for entry to the lobby and the other for deliveries and underground (basement) car parking. You can't circumvent this.

A hotel needs at least a couple of spaces for a 'Loading Zone' for couriers etc. It reminds me of the 2-3 slip spaces at the northern end of Gresham St that get used to service the Stamford.

At night its lobby will be fully lit up on both sides and should improve safety at that end of the lane. It'll improve the look of it x100. Of course, the ACC should spruce up the rest of the lane so hotel guests don't get mugged on the way to the Casino. :?

The entire 6 level front glass panel looks like it'd also be lit up 24/7 which is cool.

cool .. looks good.

Hey, would it be better if this thing was turned around 180 degrees so the stepped balconies looked North and have a better view (Ad Oval, Nth Tce) rather then the Soouth which is just bland buildings, and it would get far more natural sunlight in the rooms? Again, me no architect/engineer so assume the current position is best for energy efficiency etc.

Lets get it on ..

The building's design would have been subject to the height restrictions fronting Hindley Street. The solar panels need to be facing north to get direct sunlight, and the building should be sloping southward to prevent some buildings south of it from being overshadowed.

Great views and design.

Now let's watch the city council as it drones on about the height.

If this and spire get built it will change the shape of the central skyline and make the CBD look a lot more interesting. With the Hindmarsh sq, KWS south and Balfours developments, the broadening of the CBD will also provide a much better impression of a growing city.

looks great!
as it seems that the solar panels are facing north (which makes alot of sense), im thinking they will not want any tall buildings to be built just to the north of it which could block out the sun... its actually a good spot for that considering only one low-level building behind, then the wide north terrace area beyond

Wow that is really a beautiful buidling. Very impressive. Finally some more interesting shapes for our skyline. It would have been nice for the top of the building to be some sort of 'lightbox' or lantern or something, but I can't argue with photovoltaic cells. Now ACC please refrain from moaning and groaning about height. The height is fine.
