There is an article on AdelaideNow suggesting that Starbucks may be leaving the country!

OH no....where will we get our next cup of really crap coffee!!!!

aside from the poor underpaid people that will lose their jobs...i couldn't care for starbucks in any capacity

no big loss, in fact several benefits (one less crap coffee merchant, profits not heading overseas, more opportunity for local cafe companies and individual operators, less americanism in general - yes that's a benefit too :-))
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I would love to see Starbucks leave Adelaide. I agree that the only downside is the job losses.

Starbucks is doing it very tough in the US and have closed, I think, hundreds of stores.

I remember my first cup ever of Starbucks coffee in Redmond, Washington. Our relocation consultant was taking us shopping and we went to get coffee..and "Holy heck!" I thought, what IS this stuff?!? But I didn't want to be rude because Starbucks is a Seattle company, so I drank it up..never again!!

its official Starbucks are closing 61 of its 80 something Australian stores as well as ALL 3 stores in SA, although not the best coffee, it would have been nice if they kept at least the one store in Rundle Mall, it was good having an internationally known coffee shop in town, its like the macdonalds of the coffee world lol

although, besides city and glenelg, what was the other store, i thought there was only the 2?

Good, the first time I tried Starbucks and I never went back since. I cannot distinguish between their freshly brewed coffee and the instant coffee you can buy from the supermarket.

CIBO and Hudson both make the best coffee in my opinion, and just a headsup as well, prices of raw coffee has gone up, especially those imported as rising fuel cost are pushing the prices up. I have been buying freshly packed roasted coffee and I can only see the prices going one way, up. I have cut down buying coffee from Cibo as the prices are just getting a bit ridiculous these days, so I brew my own from home, using the near identical beans from their supplier Rio Coffee from Nelson St in Stepney. Though you can't exactly buy the Cibo special blend due to copyright but they do sell a similarly blend coffee beans.

They have the best coffee beans in the whole Australia, I've even tried purchasing my beans from as far as QLD, but nothing beats the Espresso from RIO Coffee.

now I did see a rumour on SSC that Hudson's maybe taking over most of the closed Starbucks stores

I like Cibo, but I go crackers if I dont get my Bean Bar mocha late each day. 2 shots and yum yum. They dont open on Sundays, so I go to next of kin - Cibo.

You'll be happy. The managing director of Bean Bar is interested in the Starbucks sites and
poentially employing the displaced workers. :)
