Has anyone got any news yet on what is going to happen at the Mitsubishi Site, there was a lot of talk about, assembling mining trucks, hybrid vans and trucks, solar products? Has any of this amounted to anything yet?

To me it should be used as housing - its perfect with the train line etc.
Unfortunately those with vested interests in keeping prices high and the real estate bubble going (pretty much everybody over the age of 25) will do their best to prevent a glut of land that size coming on to the market.

Given that it is owned by Mitsubishi and they want to get out of Australia as quickly as possible, I am of the understanding that the land will be coming to market shortly...

I wonder if Mitsubishi’s office HQ will move into the CBD or will we eventually loose it to Melbourne or Sydney?

I dare say it will stay in Adelaide.. Surely they will still need a parts warehouse etc anyway so a CBD move may or may not happen.

I'd love to see a 21st century Colonel Light Gardens built there. A modern day '1000 homes scheme' using the garden suburb principals would be a cool proposal. Can only happen if the Government purchase the land and develop it though.

In reality I wouldn't be surprised if it gets carved up into plots for an industrial/office park.

I wouldn't mind something like they're doing up at Woodville... Manufacturing Park I think they call it.

What you are referring to is on the corner of Port road and Cheltenham Parade. Used to be called Manufacturing Park
and is now called Charles Sturt Industrial Park. There is a new Bunnings there, a soon to be completed Harvey
Norman outlet and other industrial businesses. The old Actil site off Torrens road has been levelled and will be
a new housing estate. Just as an interesting aside - the buildings which housed the wool spinners etc at Actil
were triple brick in thickness - something you would doubt we'll ever see again

I hope to god they don't use it as housing. We need more industry areas

Agreed, especially in the southern suburbs.

I think one tentative proposal is to build army trucks on the site. Defence industries are good - always needed regardless of economic conditions.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

It would be good to also see some industries to support our mining industry as this along with defence is our obvious new direction.

There was a news report some time ago that stated that a major mining equipment manufacturer was looking at setting up there.

Seems like SA would be a logical place for a large mining equipment manufacturer to set up too. Half way between the QLD and WA minefields and a relatively short hop up to Olympic Dam. But wouldn't a company required to transport massive machinery rather be in the Port/Gillman area close to rail and shipping?
