Taken from the top level of the Napier Building
Taken as they were attaching the boom (is that what its called?). You can see some guy stabilising it.

(Edited out the picture urls to save repitition)

Great snaps darksidelemm, yes it is the boom or jib. The guys that built it were over from Melbourne (Boom Logistics, the owners of the machine) with one expat now working for them...
There was a bit of a holdup with paperwork before we could start using the machine, a result of the hookblock falling to ground on the Coglin street job (another company and type of crane) and a number of faults found on another machine in SA...

Does anyone know why that skinny yellow crane in the corner of the site has been put up?

My guess was that it would be used as a concrete pump, but I haven't had time to have a closer look yet.

I'll try to take a snap this week with my phone.

There have been images of the second crane posted above, just not the top of it. It's probably not the type of crane you seem to be imagining though, it is self-erecting, not a tower crane.

I'll just talk about the main structure going up now.
The white crane is a Favco 1500. The yellow tower crane is the formwork contractors "Mitcon's" crane.
The decks are catching up to the core now, haven't poured the core since late September, but will soon. The cycle is ruffly 14-18 days for each floor. It is constructed in two pours, East is pour one and west is pour two, with construction joint running N-S eiter side of the main core. We pour the slabs, core and columns with boom concrete pumps and the columns get poured with a skip occasionaly.
Each floor is more complex than normal to construct. The decks are off form, the soffits are to be exposed so the formwork needs to be spot-on and clean before pouring. There is post tensioning used along with conventional reinforcing. Also, there is geothermal pipework in the slabs (this helped gain some green star points) to reduce the load on any airconditioning. Since the soffits are exposed, there is no suspended ceiling. So where will all the services run? Under the raised floors to be done by ASP.
The main core is to house toilets, the two cores either side of the building are stair shafts made of precast concrete panels, and the lift shaft is in the precast shaft in the South West cnr where the link to Eng Nth is.
There is to be some High Voltage electrical works for ETSA to occur over the christmas period.
Yesterday, Worksafe SA just visited the site and stated it was going to be their new benchmark or measuring stick for safety in the SA construction industry.
Something for Hindmarsh to be mighty proud of.
Any questions I am happy to answer.

Aha! I wondered what all the piping in the floors was for!

Thanks for the info Selfey!
