Hiya, i'm 27. Yep i'm not too sure what an emo is, but i've been told by a workmate that it's not a gothic and they listen to 'emo' music (usually depressing stuff), and they dress in black without the makeup.

If that's the case, they come in droves into the mall around lunchtime.

Hey they should make a time square thing than at least they attract the crowds to better things than eyesores and plus it wouldn't matter how much they spend they will make massive profit from these agencies being advertised on these screens so they aren't doing it for looks as much but for the dough

well... I think Mants is onto something...move HJ to the other end of the block closer to the cinema's....

redevelop the whole block with more fine restaurants make it into a "lygonesque" type of street with end to end restaurants. Ide even go as far as to say block Rundle street off from the traffic and make a walkway/bridge connecting it to Rundle Mall....

I still think the screen will be ace..lots of colour and lots of vibrancy...

Is this actually going to be a large TV screen or a large fluoro advertisement? I don't think HJ's will be giving up its domination of that area any time soon. Hopefully when the council decides to finish the Pulteney St. upgrade to North Terrace this might clean up this area. It would have to be one of the biggest eyesores in Adelaide (especially in the early mornings of Sat and Sun). BTW does anyone have original pictures of the HJ carpark before they put up the prison bars?

The Hungry Jacks carpark was built between 1975-77 and it was designed by Hassell. Academically the carpark is a superb example of functionalist architecture and it reflects engineering innovation. The carpark is so superb that it was awarded an award of merit from the Royal Australian Institute of Architects in 1980.

It was never supposed to be permanent. Just turns out that it's life has been more prolonged than had originally been expected. Hopefully it will be replaced by something more respectable sometime in the near future.

I wish they would demolish it now and build a 15st Apartment Building with a 2 level shopping complex and underground carparking

I have heard that the original HJ carpark was designed without the prison bars and actually had vines falling down the outside of the building. If you look at the facade you can see some of the original vines still on the building. Was wondering whether someone had a picture of the carpark in this state.
