[COM] Adelaide Council is a joke

#47 Post by gregrogers257 » Mon Nov 13, 2006 9:56 pm

This project is going to be nothing special at all. What can they do with
only $1.6 million..??

The adelaide council is a joke...... They waste too much money on stupid projects and don't put enough money into good projects like this one ....

From all i can see from the render its just two little projections. Dont know why there is so much hype about it... Comparison to times square... biggest joke i ever heard. A hundred more of these on that intersection and maybe, but two little projection screens... I dont what Harbo is crapping on about, but if this is gonna be like times square then i guess our cbd would have to be like... manhatten, no...?

And if this project is going through, there will be arguements from some other lame parties claiming that it is a distraction to motorist and hence endangering the safety of the public. I can already see that news report coming up in the Advertiser soon

The most interesting part of that picture is what looks like some sort of canopy or covering of the whole intersection.

But, it's just one of several submitted proposals. In the paper they actually showed another of the proposals which was embarrassingly bad. It looked like a giant picture of birds on the side of the car park block.

Totally agree Snorks, totally. They (ACC) must all have a set of tight arses to get a silly $1.6 million out. That should be the cost of one screen. But I'll take it, its better then nothing.

And your too right Raph!

I had a look today at the display in the ACC's Pirie Street Customer Centre. Apologies for the bad photos.

The first proposal we saw doesn't even get a mention, but here's some that were on display:

----------------------
'H20' features a canopy over the intersection, and a massive screen over the Target car park:

----------------------
This one I didn't really understand. It features a lot of words like 'journey' and is the type of thing that made me drop out of Architecture. :D I think the red lines are scrolling screens, although I might be wrong. It also features a 'digital lounge' in the mall, but it doesn't say what it means!

----------------------
What a difference image compression makes. What looked like a net in the 'Tiser's photo above, is actually to be a series of suspended lights to form a giant screen over the intersection:
Image

Image

----------------------
"Point X" features a 'floating box' suspended over the intersection, with screens on all four sides:

----------------------
There was also a small book of other... bad.. proposals which included some that were childish and laughable. Here's the best of them, the rest don't rate a mention IMO.

Image
It, I assume, is a series of yellow lights that can be turned off to form silhouettes from the shadows. Another picture had musical notes.

You can take a look for yourself, it's on Pirie Street behind Town Hall. If you go, fill out a comments form, or:

I managed to take a pic of all the concepts.. some looked good, like the cube, others looked absolutely shithouse and my niece could do a better job.

Anyhow, quite a few of them...

I can't see any of those proposals being built for 1.6 mil. That cube one gets me a little excited though - probably cost too much and too futuristic to get approved. I bet we just end up with a large screen TV mounted above HJs.

Thanks for that guys, much appreciated

The one from the tiser, looks alot better, that sky screen & news ticker would look awesome at night. If this concept is choosen it could become a popular hot spot for visitors and locals. Though i think there needs to be billboards on the UniSA & Target Building.

As for the rest of them - some of them are good and the some are just a disgrace and laughable. Though im a bit lost at to what is going to hold that cube in the Point X concept.

To be onest ill be happy if they just stuck 2 LCD Billboards on the Target & Hungry Jacks carparks and 2 normal billboards on the UniSA building and western side of the Target carpark...

I like both from the Advertiser and Point X and I think Point X has come up with a pretty cool design, but from the photos it looks like that section of Rundle St is closed for pedestrain only, is that what they are planning to do for real?

There was actually an article on this in the paper today, sorry didnt get a chance to get the actual article but it went along the lines of 'dont hold your breath on this, cause we all know how crap the ACC is, and that when they say it will be built by next year that means it will be considered next year, etc, etc, etc'. I hope they are wrong, cause some of those actually look pretty good. And pistol, yeah your right, i dont know how most of these will be around the $1.6m mark,... except for that flower canopy, which knowing our luck is the one that will get built.
