Yes the economic reasons for prefering to have a blank concrete wall can be compelling. Less solar heat load at peak power consumption times (ie late afternoon / evening: a cheaper and quicker construction: a blank wall to run services down etc etc.

It just looks ugly from the outside and would be pretty damn gloomy on parts of the inside without any natural light from that angle.

But that is not the entire point. The most important reason as to why buildings have blank walls, is because if they are built to afront a property boundary, one must assume that at some future point in time, the adjoining property may also be developed. Hence, it would be a waste of money, not to mention a fire risk, if buildings had windows on their property boundary.

Thanks Xara. Would appear this building has now topped out.

I like how the blank Western Wall has the Police Logo (squares) it kind of works in this instance whereas would be kind of boring if the police wern't the tenants.

Interestingly, a climbing collar is being installed on the crane now, and there are a couple of extra tower sections on site too. So the crane will be growing soon.

Maybe some extra height we weren't expecting?

I can see this building and crane from my back door, and the crane is much higher today

The eastern side core (stairway?) had the formwork all removed today, so I'm guessing this is going to be the max number of floors. I count 10 level's plus ground.

The glass going up is nice and dark too. Hopefully this one is going to look good in the end, and a bit of a departure from the green/blue glass buildings of late.

Why would they put a climbing collar on a building that's already maxed out? Maybe there's a CC1-style secret squirrel spire...

Given it has been a little while since we had an update on this one I thought I would post up some photo's from this morning.
Word locally is that the building will top out this month, and take it as a complete rumour but there is talk about the 2nd building going ahead.

Kinda wierd that there'll be more space in this building than in the current HQ on the corner of Flinders St & Gawler Place, but that's the word. I reckon it'll look pretty good when the second building's completed, providing it matches this one.

This makes quite a impact in that part of the city now.

It's still a disappointing addition to our boring skyline. Hopefully Mayor Yarwood will encourage taller buildings to give the City some sort of visual impact. I work in the south east of the CBD and at every turn you would think you were in a country town.
