Most people will be using the Qatar flights as a stop over to Europe like they do with Emirates and Singapore.Julious91 wrote:I'm impressed!
I didn't think our market warranted another flight to the middle east - i hope they stick!
Given Qatar airways next move to entice the Adelaide market, I wonder if Emirates will think about setting up their own lounge past passport control? Or upgrading to A380 daily? Very interesting summer coming... also well done Adelaide!

I take it has nothing to do with the media sensationalising aircraft mechanical safety to boost their "hits" and scare people.rev wrote:
It's been in the media, they've had quite a few issues.
I think some airlines have even reduced their orders.

I know people in aviation who have stated what I said earlier. Qantas themselves significantly decreased their order, one of the two reasons was their dissatisfaction with the aircraft. I find the media's sensationalisation of aircraft safety is more targeted at the airlines themselves and cost cutting in the maintenance side of things.Ben wrote:I take it has nothing to do with the media sensationalising aircraft mechanical safety to boost their "hits" and scare people.rev wrote:

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Qantas reduced their orders because they were imploding to Qantas Sydney and Melbourne Airways. With nobody feeding to Singapore via Qantas metal from Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane, and Emirates getting free access to those cities, Qantas had no need for bigger aircraft.Patrick_27 wrote:I know people in aviation who have stated what I said earlier. I'd be interested though if you have any reputable links to decent statistics about Airbus A380 despatch reliability.
The A380 is a superior aircraft to fly in as a passenger in my experience. (I've travelled to Europe and back 3 long sectors per year for the past 8 years and have travelled roughly equal numbers of sectors B777, B747 and A380). It is far better than the 747.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Emirates throwing an a380 our way seems a bit brash, but I know thats how they operate - going big and all.Stefan P wrote:Don't count on Emirates putting an A380 into Adelaide now. Qatar starting here has pretty much killed that plan. Plus the airport needs a huge infrastructure upgrade for that as well e.g make some bays duel aerobridges.Julious91 wrote:I'm impressed!

They airport is currently doing some apron works down by REX/ Virgin end of the terminal where there appears to be some tarmac works happening. most probably some layover bays for REX
What is the likelyhood now of AAL developing a lounge past Passport Control for all these airlines? Will QANTAS do a business class lounge and let Emirates in as well as OneWorld alliance members (Malaysia, Qatar, Cathay) or Do you think a OneWorld lounge would stand alone given Qantas' non presence here in Adelaide.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
The international part of the airport is due to be redeveloped in the next few years anyway. Hopefully this will include an increase to the customs area and one or two more lounges. Only Singapore Airlines has one at the moment.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
They need to revise this part of the proposed redevelopment. The current international terminal existing as a temporary measure can't last if they're to further increase the services. I'd suggest either completely reconfiguring half of the current terminal and shifting one of the main airlines into the extended terminal area, or relocate the international terminal into one of the new terminal wings to be built north of the current terminal.Norman wrote:The international part of the airport is due to be redeveloped in the next few years anyway. Adelaide may never see a regular A380 service...so I agree on the time frame proposed. However I would love to be proven wrong.crawf wrote:From the Adelaide Airport Masterplan

Tigerair made some announcements today. The one that interests us the most are additional flights between Sydney and Adelaide. They'll start from December 8 on a brand new A320.
Cheers

Be interesting to see Rex's reaction to this, given they pretty much are actively against any integration of their services within T1.crawf wrote:From the Adelaide Airport Masterplan

Is there a reason for this?Brucetiki wrote:Be interesting to see Rex's reaction to this, given they pretty much are actively against any integration of their services within T1.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
They don't want any inbound luggage to go through security screening (their planes are under the requirements that require security so inbound luggage arrives unscreened). They're pretty much against going through security at any of their airports (they have an active campaign against Dubbo airport because they installed security to accomodate Qantaslink Q400's).monotonehell wrote:Is there a reason for this?Brucetiki wrote:Be interesting to see Rex's reaction to this, given they pretty much are actively against any integration of their services within T1.
Same happens with Qantaslink now they've downgraded SA services to Q300's, but they have no issue with using the main terminal for arrivals (passengers go via a front tunnel and go straight to the carousels via the old Air Asia check-in area)

Lots of solar panels to go on the terminal roof. Largest such arrangement in the nation.
