Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
Google have blanked out certain government buildings/facilities before.. i believe lucas heights might be one of them? Perhaps you've stumbled onto a gov conspiracy in 223 north terrace.
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
I saw the google maps street view car on goodwood road yesterday, it was driving slowly and it had a flashing orange light (like a construction vehicle etc). Quite hard to describe and I only saw it briefly, but it had about 5 cameras mounted on poles on the roof...
It looked something like these two, but was white (from memory) and wasn't a prius

Nice! It's about time we get Street view.. hopefully they can do this again in 5 years time and we can gauge the progress in our city.
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
Speaking of Google Maps, they've updated their satellite image for the Adelaide CBD:
Changes I've spotted so far:
TRAM LINE!
No blimp.
SA Water is almost complete, only one crane is still up.
Two cranes on Coglin Place and Tomson Playford
Work at Adelaide Uni
No crane on The Precinct
Blue tennis courts on Memorial Drive
Bakewell Underpass
Significant work on the South Road/Anzac Hwy intersection
Slow work on North Terrace outside City East

Symptom of the drought. As previously mentioned in a different thread the council is consideringAtD wrote:The lake in Rymill Park is dry. Any idea why?
permanently lining the bottom of the lake so there will be no leakage and therefore less water needed for re-filling
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
Saw it last week coming off days road onto torrens rd. Maybe they were at grandjunction rd getting a few snaps of the locals ?
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
I just notice they've removed the 'PARAFIELD' tree-sign!
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
I noticed that a few months when I drove along Main North Rd, all those trees were cut down. Not sure why.AtD wrote:I just notice they've removed the 'PARAFIELD' tree-sign!
Rymill Park lake is an odd one. There seems to be different views. I heard there was a leak, and during the last year's drought the lake naturally got a bit lower. So then the ACC decided to use all the water on the parklands, leaving it dry, so you would expect them to fix it up, once it was empty. However as far as Ive seen, nothing has been done to the lake bed at all The ACC then blamed SA Water, and then SA Water said if you want water to fill it up, we'll give you some, which is a strange thing to say when we're in a drought. No one knows
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
I walked past Rymill Park the other day and there was earthmoving equipment in the (empty) lake digging and moving sand around. No idea what they were doing.
Re: Google Maps Street View Car spotted in Adelaide
Maybe they're making sandhills for kids to slide down on their bodyboards. Wouldn't that be the sight...

Google Street View Launched in Australia
Written by Howie

You may remember there was discussion on the forums about the Google Street View cars driving around Adelaide with their 360 degree camera equiped Street View cars.
Well today Google officially launched their much anticipated Google Maps Streetview feature for Australia. That means you can 'drive' through pretty much any street in Adelaide, and get a 360 degree panoramic view of nearly any point in the city. You don't have to be a skyscraper/architecture buff to appreciate the immersion this technology brings.
Google had delayed it's implementation for Australia to relieve privacy concerns. Number plates and faces have been blurred out using their sophisticated recognition software.
Here's one of our favourite landmarks.
Check out Street View for yourself
