Definitely the Perth building. Looks like something the Advertiser would mock up.

Or the completely pointless bollards on one side, which you would assume would be to stop a ram-raid, but then there's no bollards on the remainder of the glass fronted perimeter.
I was wondering similarly what the advantage of an inner city corner block is for a cloud data centre, rather than out in a suburban paddock site. I imagine there would be multiple direct links to the NBN hubs no matter where it is placed.Llessur2002 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:27 amAre there technological benefits from it being within the bounds of the CBD and its 1.21 gigawatt fibre optic network?
There's links, and then there's links. No suburban site is ever going to be able to match being directly plugged into the huge fibre network of the CBD, not in this country.SBD wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 11:18 amI was wondering similarly what the advantage of an inner city corner block is for a cloud data centre, rather than out in a suburban paddock site. The 8m high entry doors are pretty spectacular with the handles too high for anyone to reach. 3D rendering at it's finest.rev wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:58 amOr the completely pointless bollards on one side, which you would assume would be to stop a ram-raid, but then there's no bollards on the remainder of the glass fronted perimeter.
I doubt it, I don't think there's even been a development application.Uncle Monty wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:30 amA large excavator was on site this morning digging in the sand, like a giant Tonka toy! Possible site works commencing??
211-217 PIRIE ST ADELAIDE SA 5000
UNDER ASSESSMENT
Description
Construction of a 6 level building comprising data centre and ancillary office.
City beach brought much more value to the land than this. In terms of social/cultural life of the city.
I wouldn't be against such a facility being built on the banks of the Torrens as a permanent fixture. Better that than more hospitals/carparks. That's what parklands are supposed to be used for ...recreational activities.
Better public transport access for the people working there would be a huge benefit considering how shithouse PT access to the suburbs is. I don't think the idea of a datacenter in the CBD is a problem but I don't like that the ground level is just a blank wall of glass. They should really be made to put a retail/cafe/restaurant space at ground level. And then who cares what they do above ground.Llessur2002 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:27 amAre there technological benefits from it being within the bounds of the CBD and its 1.21 gigawatt fibre optic network?
I doubt the number of employees at a data centre would be enough to make a significant difference to public transport, and might well be on shiftwork so two out of three shifts don't work with Adelaide's public transport system anyway. Network proximity to Lot 14 is probably valuable though.Hex wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 10:21 amBetter public transport access for the people working there would be a huge benefit considering how shithouse PT access to the suburbs is.
