This isn't the site that went bankrupt? Or am I thinking of a different location?

This is the site on the corner of Elder & Main where the original builder (Barbaro) was only licensed to build to a maximum height of 4 storey's, but thought he would have a crack at build a 9 storey building, then I guess someone found out, so the Council pulled the approval just as construction commenced, so the site was just left as it was until today.

I would assume so. The site has been exposed for at least 5 years. Holiday Inn would be far better off demolishing what's there and starting fresh.

This is interesting. They are fitting out part of the ground floor of the structure. Display centre? site office? If they were going to knock it down wouldn’t this get in the way?

They're not going to knock it down, same structural plan as previous building, just a different internal plan and facade

Construction of a $60m hotel in Mawson Lakes has commenced, breathing life into a construction site that has remained stagnant for four years.

This is progressing well with a hammerhead up on site now

Good to see, it's been an eyesore for too long. Should look great once it's finished.

The site next to the Romeo's Foodland is also now excavated. This should be the last major plot in the area to be developed.

The address is 13-17 Metro Parade

Pelligra, IHG Add Rooms, Rebrand To-Be-Built Hotel

A major accommodation player has made the call to “elevate the positioning” of a yet-to-be-built asset in the South Australian capital with a rebranding—and 25 more rooms.

IHG Hotels & Resorts, Pelligra Group and developer ONE7 said the hotel being built 12km north of the Adelaide CBD would be rebranded as a Crown Plaza Mawson Lakes.

The property was to be a 130-key Holiday Inn & Suites hotel.

However, IHG said, the hotel had undergone a “transformation during the development phase and is now positioned in the upscale space, with higher than anticipated demand coming from corporate, leisure and conference and event customers”.

“The decision to elevate and rebrand the hotel as Crowne Plaza Mawson Lakes, [reflects] the higher-end quality of the build and the location’s demand drivers in the meetings and events space.”

Due to open in the second half of this year, the hotel now comprises 155 rooms, three meeting spaces across 442sq m, a fitness centre and a bar and restaurant.
