[COM] SGIC Building > GHD Building Redevelopment

Well a few offices around Adelaide are set for some big revamps by the looks. Therefore a new thread is needed imo. The old SGIC building was listed in the recent Development Registers update from ACC, well the address was confusing but it seems to be that building. Facade and internal upgrade at $14million.

I also mentioned ANZ House at 11-19 Grenfell Street a couple of weeks back but it was upated on propertylook.com.au yesteray. It is getting a big makeover and it needs it badly. Here is a quote from the website, 'The building is set to undergo a major refurbishment including a full services upgrade. The foyer and facade will be upgraded as will amenities'. Hopefully that will be the entire facade. Sounds promising anyway.

Hopefully they don't just do dodgy paint jobs like Hooker House.

Some of you will think I've gone crazy, but I seriously think ANZ House should be heritage listed. It represents a crucial stage in the development of architecture. It is a transitional design from modern to postmodern. It is therefore a very unique building.

I disagree Will. I would love to see that building demolished, nothing special about it at all IMHO.

Great to hear that the old SGIC building is getting a makeover.

211 Victoria Square - old SGIC building has been put out in today's paper for tender by two companies both Built Environments and Hansen Yuncken, are they competing for the contract or maybe both doing different parts of the redevelopment? I would love to see a render of this one, I hope it is not a tacky quick effect job. $14 million was the quoted price in Dev App, that is a fair bit of money for a refurb.

Is the SGIC building the one on the corner of Flinders and King William?

If not, then what is that building with all the work going on in it?

The structure is sound, so it would be a waste of money demolishing it, but I agree with everyone else in saying that the building desperately needs a makeover. I personally think that it is one of the 5 ugliest high-rise buildings in Adelaide.

It looks as though they have been trialing a few different glass panes on the old SGIC building too, maybe testing to see which ones they want or which ones suit the best? There are few different panes on the lower levels on both the eastern and southern elevations. I have been in this building before and if you think the outside is bad the inside is pretty shocking, particularly on the ground floor. The views from this building are great though. The upgrade if done well will have a great impact on the skyline from the west, south and east of the city. It is a very noticable structure from many perspectives.
