What's Happening in Adelaide

All event related discussion should go here.. e.g. Clipsal 500, Womadelaide, SALA, etc.

It's only temporary.
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

May is History month in South Australia.

You may be interested in Lost Adelaide, an initiative of the State Library of South Australia.
Discover Adelaide's lost (demolished) buildings using your smartphone.
Lost Adelaide

What is it?
Lost Adelaide is a self-guided walking tour (mobile/digital storytelling /augmented reality experience) via the 7scenes smartphone app).
It uses location-based technology and historical photos of a selection of demolished Adelaide buildings from the State Library pool of historical photos.
Check the State Library website for hints on using the tour.

For a quick preview of the photos of the demolished buildings for those who don't have time/don't have a smartphone/don't live locally - check the Photos on Flickr for Lost Adelaide.

As an example, check out the original Brookman Building on Grenfell St. (Photo: 1896).

Download the free smartphone app (iPhone or Android) from 7scenes and try it out.

8 cruise liners arriving in the next 8 days. Good for retail sales...

From AdelaideNow
The arrival in Adelaide on Saturday of Queen Mary 2, the largest cruise ship to visit Australia, will start an intense period in South Australia's cruise season of eight ships' calls in eight days.

Four will come to Outer Harbor this weekend - the big QM2 on Saturday which is due in at 8am and sailing at 6pm, followed on Sunday by three cruise ships on the same day for the first time. The Celebrity Century, Athena and Crystal Serenity will be nose-to-tail along the wharf at Outer Harbor.

They are due in at 6.30am, 6.30am and 7am respectively and due to sail at 6pm, 5pm and 11pm.

Rundle Mall Management Authority has arranged early trading for shops in its precinct, from 9.30am on Sunday, to cater for the thousands of passengers and crew on the ships who will be offered free bus rides to the city and return.

The busy time for ship visits in SA continues with the Athena at Port Lincoln on Monday, The World coming to Outer Harbor from Thursday to Saturday next week, The Silver Shadow on Friday next week followed by its visit to Port Lincoln the following day.

The Albatross will be at Outer Harbor on February 23, then the Queen Mary 2 returns on March 3 followed by Radiance of the Seas on March 11 and Arcadia on March 13. The season will end on April 6 with a call by Dawn Princess which began the season on September 28.

Tasting Australia, one of the nation's best food festivals is back!

From the Messenger:

MORE than 30,000 foodies will sample the state’s finest dishes on the banks of the River Torrens this weekend.

About 100 exhibitors from across SA will showcase a range of cuisines in Elder Park for Tasting Australia’s Feast for the Senses festival.

The free two-day event will include Greek, Italian, Indian, Korean, Japanese and Argentinian dishes.

More than 40 wineries from regions including the Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Langhorne Creek will showcase their finest drops.

Local pubs, such as the Hotel Wright Street and The Lion Hotel, will serve up modern Australian cuisine.

Visitors can also take part in hands-on cooking classes.

Barossa Fine Foods general manager Stephan Knoll says Feast for the Senses is an opportunity to teach people about smallgoods.

He will sell tasting platters and cheese plates in partnership with Hentley Farm Wines.

“For us, it is about trying to educate consumers about where our products are from and what smallgoods should taste like,” Mr Knoll says.

Feast for the Senses will be held next Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29, from 11am-5pm.

Tasting Australia, which features a series of food and wine-related events, will be held across the state from April 26-May 3.
