me too - we must be *special*
I appreciate the boat sheds too.
They provide an important connection to our history and a vital connection to the river. I like the contrast between the old and the new.

It's great to see recreational use of the river - rowing, paddle boats etc. During the recent Food and Wine Festival at Elder Park, the dragon boat races added a level of excitement and colour. Co-existence is key!

As Xaragmata's excellent photos show, the HMRI is an impressive building as a backdrop from the riverside, with the glamorous Convention Centre to one side and the heritage school boat sheds in the foreground with lawned area down to the river. A photographer's dream and sure to be one of the (postcard type) images which captures the charm and diversity of our city. It's a mix of styles, eras and function that works.

hopefully, one day, a state government can actually get the Torrens looking like a river/lake rather than a cesspool of storm water run off and pollutants.

The best opportunity they had for doing this was when that draining mishap happened. They should have taken that golden chance to funnel some money into sorting it out.

To what extent will the ground level be clad/glazed/left open? That fabulous open space underneath with those large diagonal beams is delicious.

Wow! Thanks for the incredible photos. As someone who works in the medical industry it is exciting to imagine what this building represents as far as medical research and advancement is concerned. It is my dream to see SAHMRI become a research powerhouse like the Queensland Institute. It's great to see some prominant figures in medicine returning from interstate and overseas to take up posts in the new building and I know that some of my colleagues are getting excited about starting their own studies in collaboration with SAHMRI. Having said all of that, the building design itself is shaping up to look fantastic. I fell in love with the concept images when it was proposed but some of the incredible photos that have been popping up in this thread have shown to me at least that the building itself will probably well exceed expectations with regards to design, fit and prominance in the Adelaide skyline. Especially the shots so far from the street across the road and from the train. Excitement is an understatement.

From memory this project is due for completion at the end of 2012. Is it still on target as there looks like there is still a long way to go?

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

A very unusual angle of town!

That shot also reinforces how much amazing potential there is for that area still, it's inevitable that stuff will get built over the trainlines eventually.

Hoping the skin of this building ends up close to spec. looks so sexy. Anyone know by whom it is being manufactured?
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

This has topped out now.
Saw a tree on top of the structure today.
