Agreed. It wasn't great food, but it was a reliably good go-to. And the kitchen opened later than most others in the East End.Patrick_27 wrote:Speak for yourself, Metro. Nope - they renewed their lease a couple weeks ago and are redecorating soon.Matt wrote:Is Fumo Blu going too?
Driller on the other hand might just be closing Sugar, he's rejected a few offers to buy it so far. idk

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
I suspected Sugar's demise. The writing has been on the wall for a long time (and I don't mean the cocktail specials in chalk).
Disappointing. Used to be a favourite of mine 7 years ago, but failed to change and keep up with the times.
As for Fumo, I'm glad to hear they're finally redecorating. They really do need to rework the interior layout. The bar takes up too much space and the lighting is just a tad dim.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
YES! I've been hoping for years that the space between the facade and the car park could be used for small store fronts. Union St has a lot of potential to continue the Ebenezer/Vardon area (and you can argue that the northern end already does, with Burger Theory and Penny University)Ben wrote:DA/492/2015

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
I just hope the ACC comes to the party, and makes Union Street more pedestrian friendly. Get rid of the on-street carparks!
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
It's not just the on street ones, the off-street parking stations along the Northern end of Frome St need to go as well! They are such hideous buildings and really do not suit the character of the East End.Will wrote:I just hope the ACC comes to the party, and makes Union Street more pedestrian friendly. Reactivating Adelaide Myer Centre in the works, says new owner YTL Starhill
Supplied Editorial SA_ADV_SABJ_06JULY15 Ho Sing has bought the Myer Centre
RENEWED quality will be the overarching theme for Adelaide’s Myer Centre, its new owner said on a flying visit to the city.
The chief executive of YTL Starhill Global REIT, Ho Sing, headed a managerial posse intent on inspecting their $288 million purchase.
The deal with previous owners, Novion Property Retail Partnership, was only announced in May and Mr Sing was on just his second trip to Adelaide, he said. But development thoughts are already in place.
“The fourth and fifth floors will be reactivated,” he said.
“The escalators have been taken out and we will put them back. We will work with local agents and the tenant to drive it forward. We are still talking it through.”.
Further car parking options will also be examined, said Mr Sing, who was instrumental in taking established brands H & M and Uniqlo into Malaysia in 2013.
He is keen to put down an international retail footprint in Adelaide with a focus on higher end tenants.
“I was a little surprised at the level of visible wealth in Adelaide,” he said.
He was quick to emphasise that YTL Starhill, the management and investment arm of the corporation with operations in Singapore, China and the UK, is here for the long haul.
“Since we went public in 2005 we have sold just a couple of shops in Japan,” he said, with Starhill keen to continue its focus of revamping in prime locations.
Mr Sing said out of town shopping malls are not on the cards.
“We look at the hardware and the software,” he said. in reference to premises, tenants and ambience.
“The world famous food hall in Selfridges in central London was an aspiration in this respect.’’
One innovation not to return will be the iconic Dazzleland train that tracked around the top perimeter of the Myer Centre in the 1990s.
Mr Sing confirmed he will take a hands-on approach to the Myer Centre redevelopment. He also told the Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Martin Haese, whom he met at a town hall reception, that he will be a regular visitor to Adelaide with the January Tour Down Under of particular appeal.
