News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
The renovations that I saw happening were mainly
on the first floor, next to the crazy horse. Hindley street is growing more popular as the place to be for night life. There used to be clubs on pirie street but not anymore.

Do you really need to apply for a "change of use", if you're converting consulting rooms into "consulting" rooms?Ben wrote: also GHS this might be what you were talking about on Hindley... another strip club I assume..
Type Application Assessed on Merit
Application Number DA/605/2015
Lodgement Date 11/08/2015
Location 141-143 Hindley Street, ADELAIDE SA 5000
Description Change of use ground floor consulting rooms to adult entertainment, including upgrade to facade, lift, foyer and ground floor fitout and signage.

There's been tradesmen working at the old Savvy bar on Waymouth street over the last week
or so. I would imagine a new night club will be opening soon. Pop bar is opening this friday
night at the Adelaide Casino also.
How about a separate thread for bars, night clubs and restaurants ?

Garage Bar is also now called Atlantis.
Pretty sure it's also had a major refurb.

Despite the updated signage being over a year old, Zamel's in Rundle Mall will be closing soon.
Truly another end of a long era!

Moving or closing all together? They closed their Norwood Place shop about three/four months ago.The Scooter Guy wrote:Despite the updated signage being over a year old, Zamel's in Rundle Mall will be closing soon.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Went into the mall today for the first time in a month or so, here's a few observations I made...
(It's also been mentioned on here that Mimco are opening in Rundle Place) Mimco have signage up on their Rundle Mall/Gawler Place store saying that they're moving. Prime location up for grabs, here's hoping something half decent moves in.
Flight Centre have set up shop just west of City X arcade.
T Bar in Myer Centre has closed and been replaced with a laser clinic.
Mad Mex have opened up on a corner shop of the City Cross foodcourt.
Kathmandu still haven't moved into their Rundle Mall location, interested to see what will move into their Rundle Street shop when it's vacant. I'd love to see some DIFFERENT restaurants open along that strip.
JB Hi-Fi have remodelled their store by compacting their DVD/CD/gaming area into one side of the shop and in doing so have introduced a much larger vinyl record area as well introducing white-goods.
I also couldn't help but noticed that Adelaide Central Plaza (David Jones building) is practically empty... A pop up book store has opened on the Rundle Mall frontage, with another store still empty next door, inside on the ground level there is a recently empty clothing store (just next to the DJ's main entry), on the second floor there are three stores empty (two of which are being used for advertising displays). How high must the building's rates be if they have so many shops vacant?
Arcades must be at their absolute worst, Rundle Mall Plaza is practically half empty. Some arcade (Citi Centre Arcade) are in major need of an interior and exterior facelift. But dare I say it, perhaps the owners of some of these arcades should consider levelling their buildings and replace them with mixed use apartment/retail buildings? Keep the retain on ground level and building apartments on the upper levels. Hell, I'd even suggest remodelling the buildings for officers if there weren't a saturation of office space in this city. Something needs to be done though, especially when you consider that there are shops in the mall that can remain empty for up to a year.

I know someone mentioned recently about City Centre arcade but maybe they will do something soon. One of their longest tenants moved out today Symetry hairdressers that faced onto Hindmarsh square. the Wendys has also closed down. I think I counted more pigeons then people in there today at lunch.
