I'm intrigued as to why the suburbs surrounding Westfield Marion are yet to be improved to such a level whereby they justify their outstanding location - proximity to a major shopping centre; proximity to the beach; proximity to town, and so on. I suspect that rental properties must make up a great deal of the local area, because that would explain the somewhat decrepit appearance of its environs.

Everyone buy up big in that area, because the boom of nearby Somerton, Brighton, Glengowrie, Hove et. al. can only extend southwards!

One thing that you notice about this design is that they have really thought about potential vandalism. While it isn't perfect, in general the construction of the shelter is so such that there are very few surfaces that are actually in arms reach (ie within reach of a spray can) on the platform itself.

Unfortunately those ticket office walls as well as the side of the platform itself are going to get cained with spray paint. I just hope that TA prioritises keeping the station clean, in much the same way that noarlunga centre is generally kept clean and I assume that Mawson Interchange is kept clean too. I say that because in general most of the other stations do not get looked after...

They should really advertise the CCTV factor at the station.

Thanks for the photos Norman! I drove by this the other day, and got all excited. It really is splendid to see something other than decay happening to our rail system.

Looks more complete on the computer screen compared to when I saw them on your view finder this morning. Looks as if they are nearly done with the roofing.

They still have a bit of landscaping to do (which I will show in a more in-depth photospam next week), but, yes, this will open soon.

Thanks for the update Norman.

Are they going to realign the tracks after they have completed the new station?

They'd only shift the track over when the old station has been removed. One must remember that the track centres are further apart north of Oaklands station then they are to the south. Therefor, the wide gap between the track at the northern end of the new station will remain and once the old station has been removed, will match that for the rest of the line to the north of the site.

Im not noticing any overhead pedestrian walkway between the platforms and bus interchange. Surely being 2008 and with those dont play with train adds, and the fact that quite a few people may use this station, there must be a bridge. Anyone know?
