They're getting more and more ridiculous. Same with the story about replacing a few pavers and strips of timber in Victoria Sq - something that would be completely expected in any project like this, and covered by the contractors (so additional cost to the council). Their editor claims that they're for a progressive city, but all they do is rain negativity on everything.Tonsley213 wrote:What a stupid piece of journalism. Who cares that a few prices of cladding, some plants and a few steps are missing. The important thing is that people can use the bridge.

I mentioned this to a mate of mine last night while we were in town (he is the same guy who pointed out to me the dip in the bridge). He seems pretty chuffed having what could very well be a direct personal link into that article. Hahaha.[Shuz] wrote:I'm pretty sure the Advertiser just read up on the comments made here on Sensational-Adelaide and twisting the story so that it's made to look like a journalist has actually walked on the bridge and asked people what they thought of it.

see 'alternate bridge proposal' earlier on in the discussion where it was envisioned as being even wider but would also become a place for public events with a stage etc.Torrens_5022 wrote:So for about 50 hours a year the bridge is too narrow?
I think it's clearly too wide, why for the other 8710 hours in the year it won't be used to transport "cattle"
I was on the bridge the other day and there was a max of a dozen people on it and it was insanely wide.
Seriously for the the 0.006% of the year it will be used for in an excessive way we should have a 20 meter wide bridge?
It's a nice bridge just very out of scale for the 99.994% of the year it wont be used for massive crowds.
Also are the barriers extra high so they can have events on the bridge? now that would be cool.

I went down there yesterday and it's still a work in progress ... doesnt look like it will be finished soon. Maybe 1+ monyhs from completion.Matt wrote:How is the landscaping/water features going?
The steps are done but they are still finishing off the concrete foundations for the water feature section.

There was already far too many sets of steps along there. Shame they couldn't have flattened it out a bit and used less steep ramps.
[COM] Re: UC: Torrens Footbridge | $40m
There is a massive ramp on the opposite side of the bridge that winds its way up from from Torrens level to bridge level.

So after using it tonight. For 300 dsys of the year it isn't needed it is fine.
For the days it was specifically built for, to move football crowds, it isn't.

I see people using the bridge all the time. Its not like its a wasteland during the week. I have not experienced it with the football crowds on the weekend though.Waewick wrote:So after using it tonight. For 300 dsys of the year it isn't needed it is fine.

Great photo .... think the waterfall background will be a popular backdrop for wedding photos and family snaps.Matt wrote:

Post-match it's been horrible. So slow. That said there's actually plenty of room along it, but people up front just walk too damn slow.

I like the waterfall effect, but not having seen it for myself in person yet I'm struggling to think where it could be. It looks like the bridge just stops in the middle of the water, but I already know that's not the case!
