Hopefully after the restoration has been completed. Town Hall's facade is undergoing restoration works at the moment.baytram366 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 3:40 pmDoes anyone know if the GPO bells will ever chime again? I can understand if they stop them at night but what about during the day? I can't remember the last time I heard either of the GPO or Town Hall bells chime and I work on Waymouth St just behind the GPO so surely I would hear either of them going.

I don't recall hearing chimes for at least ten years.

This is random but I spotted the glazing for this building on display in a completely different location in the city. Near the Waymouth street apartment development.

That must be the testing someone referred to earlier in the thread (testing how different finishes would look).

Crane coming down on the 16th.

Looks like signage brackets on the left corner.

I think the purpose of this building was to provide space & accommodation whilst looking as unassuming as possible so as not to detract from the heritage listed building's façade.
You're supposed to not notice it.

I wish I could resurface all of the criticism on here of this particular build when it was first proposed a few years ago... This is quite the little gem for this pocket of the city.

I don’t agree and still feel that criticism is valid.

I'll reserve judgement until i see what they have done to the inside of the GPO. If its been whitewashed or gutted, zero stars.

They are starting to remove the mast sections today, 1st Feb.
King William Street is closed off this weekend 2nd-3rd so I presume that's for the mobile crane to bring the rest down.

Looks better with the hoarding cleared away and can see the Post Office building.
