Sign me up for the group that doesn't like it - the materials might save it, but they could also ruin it. I'm not entirely sure how to articulate it, but I don't really like that the windows just look like they've been cut out of the cladding and had glass stuck into them. I suppose it has the fact that it's quite unique for Adelaide going for it, but that isn't necessarily a good thing.

As an aside, in the render it appears that there is still a fair bit of space on that empty lot behind the proposed building. Any chance that could be used for a potential second stage?

This is expected to be approved at Thursdays meeting. This is stage 1 with a potential stage 2 directly behind.

I saw a few people onsite this morning, maybe they're doing some initial planning.

You can mark this one down as the next project to startup. Mcmahon and Hindmarsh staff were onsite this
morning doing a site inspection. There's no demolition required so it could go up quite quickly.

I can see the valley of death is near, with 4 projects starting or in SWP atm.

I agree with Ben entirely. Looks like an uninviting monolith with street appeal and seems to be a relative of commie blocks - short on design and cheep impact. The proposal for the Trims site leaves this even worse by comparison. Colour OK. I do realize that it is opinion but leaves me unimpressed.

The only saving grace with this one is that it is a 55m tacky building and not a 100m tacky building like Kodo. Hopefully they both fall over. As you say, the design for the old Trims site shows up just how ordinary projects like this are.

With the right materials, this could be an architectural masterpiece or it could end up looking like a dogs breakfast.

Kodo looks fine, it's just the blank wall which lets it down.

Yet I think this could be interesting, provided the materials are good, whereas the Trims site I find bland glass towers. Unless it's repeated 20 times, it's not a commie block.

It's interesting how we react differently to the same things.

Like Nathan, I like this project architecturally and think it has great potential so long as it's well constructed. Whereas a project like that on the Trims site I find monolithic and lazy. That's not to say I oppose it, but I don't think it deserves any lauding for design. It reminds me of Conservatory on Hindmarsh, which received much praise on these pages but that I still see today as a compromised building that hasn't aged well.

I think we all agree about Kodo though.

I still can't decide if it took inspiration from square swiss cheese or a warped menger sponge.

There's no stuffing around, there's an excavator on site.
