This system has great difficulty going around bends, because the thin rails need extremely high tension steel wires inside. You have to essentially divide the run into a few long straight segments, with tensioning equipment at the ends of each segment. You then build much thicker and more expensive rigid rails for the corner, which aren't tensioned.

Now now... Nathan has already told you guys...

This seems like a serious proposal. Although my cynicism is at 3000, I'm willing to hear it out.

I tend to agree with Nathan, the Simpsons episode has poured scorn and ridicule on monorails in general which are actually a very efficient and effective transport solution -- in their usage mode. It's a pity that they are always seen as a novelty or a toy. When you want to shift a lot of people between a few points, visibly but off grade and quickly they are magic. If you want to integrate at street level - not so much. They are the inverse of a subway. They provide a bit of movement just above street level. Very Jetsons / past's future.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Exactly. All transport methods have various pros and cons, and it's worth considering which fits best for the required usage (although I'm not saying have 17 different things scattered around the city - obviously one of the consideration is a city's big picture transportation network).

In this case, it seems like a middle ground between a monorail and an aerial tram. I don't see it as something that could really roll out around the CBD or the metro area in general, but for the specific location proposed, it makes some sense.

Bring on the slow and rumbly trams - every time their doors open a mass of people spills out onto the streets. I kinda like that...

Happily see no cars in the CBD...or trams.
I think people do prefer the street. See http://www.failedarchitecture.com/the-d ... n-the-sky/. Would Adelaides' city streets ever be so thronged with people that there would be no room for trams/buses?

Not really what I am thinking. That was for people.

But who knows

I still don't get why this thing keeps popping up when it fails even the slightest bit of practical analysis. It must just be the click-bait sites keeping it alive.

Was this proposed for anywhere other than Flinders Uni? The Messenger article talks about The Parade and Unley Road. Is the Flinders proposal simply the test mentioned in the article?
