Still no action on site. It’s way too early for a Christmas shutdown. Something seems off…

they should just lay some asphalt there if the development is stalled

it'd be a great location for a flea market

two separate local traders mentioned asbestos was found on site. i guess the logistics of removing that's the focus for now.

I'm not sure a Christmas shutdown is in anyone's interest after this being an original delay last year.

I'm losing a bit of optimism for this.

I have a bad feeling that this one is (at best) stalled.

Talking to a Synergy guy on the site opposite last week, he said the rumour was that multiplex cannot build it for the price - a parallel story to Lot 14 and the indigenous museum.

The IEC building at Lot 14 has also stalled + there are v few new proposals for the CBD coming through the SCAP.

Not good.

This is very worrisome. These are also prime spaces and now empty lots. For the central markets this is a disaster if nothing comes from this latest proposal.

The cost of building is astronomical at the moment, so it wouldn't surprise me if the rumours are true.

I had a chat with Norman about this. We agreed it is possible that some builders are deliberately waiting for the cost of labour/shortages to drop before going ahead.

Short term pain.

I'd say it's all part of the asbestos removal. I'd also expect some temporary tent/cover structures to be set up too.

I can confirm the removal of 60m2 of asbestos (friable) contaminated soil. Works were slated for completion by 17/10/2023 (where the pump truck is). Further contamination was detected of 80m2 of (friable) contaminated soil, works to be undertaken from 19/10 - 30/11/2023. Aint know one going on that site until they are sure that all asbestos removed unless they can isolate different areas.

So hopefully this eases everyone's fears of this site and its future!

what risk mitigation have they done for the general public?

the weather has been dry and windy blowing up all kinds of dust from that site...many people live, shop and work in the area obviously
