Anyone know what's going on the with the Telstra Exchnage building on Waymouth Street? Gantries have gone up around the building and half the carpark adjacent to it has been closed off.
I asked about a year or more ago, that's how long they've been up for no discernible purpose. No one knew anything then.

I suspected at first that they might be retrofitting/activating the ground floor given the reduced space requirements for exchange services. However, since they've been around so long, I wonder there's been some façade decay and the gantries are to protect pedestrians?

It’s actually been there for about 5 years. I have no idea how they have been allowed to keep it there.

Repairs to the entire building's facade are being undertaken (finally). Scaffolding was erected years ago to protect the public from the deteriorating concrete facade.

Scaffold appeared sometime between December 2020 and June 2021 according to Streetview

Still with the old windows/frames though? Half arsed.

Those window frames are aluminium - they will outlast mankind.
I am not a fan of the random "fins" though. They serve no purpose and look stupid. But at least its an improvement over that horrid orange whatever that was plastered all over the building previously.

I think the new cladding for the Suncorp building looks great - that warm grey goes very well.

On the other hand, I get that it's still in progress but the Myer Centre renovation is looking hideous (as expected). You might imagine the Ministry of Love looking something like that.

Taken today from 60 King William St:

I also chuckled when I realised that Level 1 in the Myer Centre has been renamed Upper Ground.

That's been it's name for well over 10 years. They abolished the Promenade, Rundle and Terrace level names for Upper Ground, Ground and Lower Ground respectively.

The Telstra Exchange building on Waymouth St looks to be getting a new lick of paint while repairs to the facade are being undertaken.

Spotted this last week just off Bentham St.

Are those cladding panels to the left new? Looks like it's a trial if so, testing how the panels work on the structure while the paint is to decide what colours to go with?

Painted concrete is almost always worse than leaving it raw. Might look cleaner for 6 months, but will very quickly look worse.
