Can’t find a thread for the site, but Stallard Meek Flightpath architects have an image of a 14 storey apartment building at 268 Waymouth Street on their Instagram page. Assume it hasn’t been lodged for planning approval yet.

The street trees on Compton Street are being removed possibly due to roots lifting the ground. Assuming they will be replaced with new trees.

I'm surprised it hasn't been redeveloped already especially around the time that Wave went up next door. Wonder if it has anything to do with its former use being a service station. Maybe the storage tanks are still under there and the land would need a far bit of remediation.

Article here about the difficulty in converting old office space into apartments. Nothing really that new, but does explain a bit why it's so difficult and often doesn't stack up economically: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-13/ ... /103686714

The article touches on light access, but there's also the issue of services — particularly plumbing — as well as differences in ceiling heights. The sentiment is good, but the reality is very few office buildings are suitable for retrofitting into residential.

Is the Telstra 67-69 Waymouth St telephone exchange being reclad? I notice both the front and western side have small bracket frames attached to large parts of these walls.

We had a bit of a discussion about it last year when it was noticed that part of the building had paint stripes and a few panels attached, so looks like it's happening: https://sensational-adelaide.com/forum/ ... 14#p214414

You watch, it will be some shade of grey for sure. I also noticed Adelaide Metro has also fallen victim to the Monument Grey trend with the repainting of a few stations including Woodlands. Personally, I think its hideous and any other actual colour would be an improvement over a shade of grey.
