News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
Re: News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
A picture of the Surflen St site .Today plumbing was been installed. This is an odd shaped site as it is fitted behind and around some existing buildings. Perhaps this project could have a separate tittle?

this is A better view of the site; it continues around behind the red brick building. Piling has been done and the plumbing is going ahead.

An up date of the Surflen St project as at 14 Nov 2015. Some precast concrete panels have been installed. these must be for car parking levels based
on the curved cut out section on the panels.

Hotel Ivaritji would be the Adelaide CBD's first eco-hotel, overlooking Whitmore Square.
First revealed by The Advertiser in November, the $11 million development would be clad to resemble the fur skin cloak of the revered Kaurna ancestor Ivaritji.

Troppo Architects director Phil Harris would form a co-operative with friends to build, own and run the nine-storey hotel.
Adelaide City Council has opposed the project because it requires the demolition of two local heritage-listed, 1895 villas, now used as offices.
The hotel would be split into two towers. A cafe at the base would double as a check-in desk for the 23 suites.
There would be no airconditioning apart from an evaporative system in the cafe to save power.
An array of solar panels, green walls and an "edible" rooftop garden would be among the other environmental features.
A rooftop function space would be planted with citrus and olives while art shows would be held in the cellar.
The fitout of the suites would feature recycled materials and possibly an Aboriginal art theme.
The development would also include a three-storey building facing the square for a business with a "shop top" apartment, and townhouses behind the hotel.

I shake my head every time I hear no A/C
is it even possible to have no a/c in a commercial property, regardless of that, at +40C nothing is cool regardless of how eco friendly you make it.

At that height should we move it to its own thread?

Good to see things happening in that part of the city, now they just have to do something worthwhile to whitmore square! (And the other squares for that matter).
Adelaide has amazing open spaces in the middle of the city, yet they all look dated and are basically just a few ugly trees and grass. Would love to see each square have its own identity. And turn into place that people really want to go

As at 21 Nov more concrete precast panels have been installed and yes they were working on Saturday afternoon. it is probably the only time Surflen St is not busy . (As the previous owner Haggle Co used to say, 'its a pig of a location'.)

Some Pictures of Surflen St today 1 Dec 2015. This is a difficult site to photograph because Surflen St is a very narrow one way street
and the project is built right up to the street and because there is a second part to the site which is behind the front section and offset (to the right). Pictures 1 front section and 2 rear section
