Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Of course there's friction, but there's no rule that any state Liberal government has to put the interests of their party before those of the people they're elected to serve. And the Federal Liberal position is unsustainable in every sense of the word. By the time of the next Federal election, the e...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
I don't think Hazelwood closing had anything to do with South Australia exporting more power....in the sense that SA has excess capacity (and that is cheap wind and solar) so if Victoria didn't buy it then NSW would have. Hazelwood was always going to be more expensive than renewables. Hazelwood cl...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
TorrensSA, Goodsy, bits Megawatts are a unit of power, not energy. Unless power use changes, a megawatt per day is the same as a megawatt per year or a megawatt per second. To get the figure for energy, multiply by the number of hours to get megawatt hours. Alternatively, multiply by the number of s...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Then the question is, why not stop in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Jakarta? Because the're more of a detour, at least for southern India (which is more prosperous than northern India). Another question is, does Christmas Island have an airport with the right services for regular stops? Yes (at least ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Lastly, the planes they’ve ordered (A321XLR) won’t get them to Melbourne or Sydney, perhaps Perth. How about Adelaide with a Christmas Island fuel stop? That would get the required range down to something that lots of aircraft could manage. What I don't understand is why the Australia-India market ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
1NEEDS2POST and Spotto, there are a few problems with the above: •Islington is a major detour from Main North Road. By the time a bus would get there, it could have travelled a third of the way to the City already. When the time waiting for the train and traveling on it is included, the bus wins eas...

Spotto, it used to be that Platform 1 was towards the City and Platform 2 away from the City. But when they installed the new train control system, the numbering was changed to whether its northbound or southbound rather than whether it's Citybound.

[VIS] Re: Interstate Trains at Adelaide Railway Station
SBD, There are many regional silos in SA that are served by rail. AIUI in recent years there has been a trend to truck more of the the grain to silos on the main (Adelaide to Melbourne) line rather than the Mallee line which doesn't allow such heavy loads. About thirty years ago, AN closed some of t...

[VIS] Re: Interstate Trains at Adelaide Railway Station
While I agree that Adelaide is definitely big enough to be a significant freight origin/destination in it's own right, in today's world of just-in-time deliveries (rather than warehousing), where time is money, the extra time taken to deliver to Adelaide by rail will, I believe, lose market share t...

rhino, If (or I hope, when) the eastern hills bypass line is constructed: • The freight terminal will remain at Regency Park. Adelaide is big enough to be a significant freight origin/destination in its own right. • Some freight trains would avoid it, and instead use the terminal at Penfield (just S...

News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Eurostar, AIUI the land is Flinders owned rather than State Government owned. DPTI considered straighter options, but rejected them in a fundamentally flawed selection process. The root cause of the problem is lack of public scrutiny of DPTI's decision making process. Their full report is still bein...

No it wouldn't. Instead it would go above the road.RetroGamer87 wrote:If the line went in front of the hospital it block the road.
Alternatively it could go below or west of the road. I think above would be better, but all three options are better than what the government favours.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
A new station should be set up under the Grand Junction Bridge, You think the trains should stop at the location where it would add most to the journey time, even though nobody lives there and relatively few work there? this will allow passengers to travel between Port Adelaide and the northern sub...

Re: The Federal Politics Thread
Did I hear Pauline Hanson correctly on the radio this morning that she wants the Federal Government to pay for a coal-fired power station in SA to burn SA coal and run the desalination plant at full power to save the Murray River water for irrigation? Yes you did. I don't think she was pressed on w...

Surely a loop (cloverleaf style) would be sufficient?Goodsy wrote:There's probably not enough traffic to justify the cost of another bridge. A right turn from PWR to the NEXY would require a huge flyover.
Any idea when this road will open?
