[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

I've noticed the majority of my discussion regarding Induced Demand has been removed, I'm assuming this was done as the final conclusion was it does not apply to a north/south freeway from Darlington to Regency Park. So to the mediators of this thread, please advise a list of your opinions and we’ll...

[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

So in summary then ID potentially won't apply to a hypothetical freeway from Darlington to Regency park as some of the short journey travelers will still be using the existing (less congested roads).

So I guess ID would only apply if a freeway was built and the existing roads were removed?

[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

^^^ thats the whole point of a freeway - to decrease travel time for those on the long stretch, and also for those taking the shorter journeys on the now less congested minor roads... So based on that then Induced Demand is not then applicable to the hypothetical portion of freeway between Darlingt...

[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

Rhino I was thinking about the concept of ID and would it really effect a hypothetical freeway along south Road, one thing to remember is that the other roads will still be there, so I guess if the majority of the road users initially start using the freeway it probably will get congested, however I...

[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

Rhino, people are going to leave Glen Osmond Road and Unly road to travel to south road and then turn right to go to the city???? :wallbash: :wallbash: I concede it's 5 a piece, the deciding factor here is that it's easier to do the either ends of south road, because over the years instead of tackli...

Who is this camaro everyone seems to be talking about he/she seems a very insightful person, hopefully I can meet him/her sometime. Monotone Hell, thank you for that detailed explanation of how ID does not apply in all cases especially in the south due to the limited amount of roads heading in the s...

[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

Seriously dude its a bit early for the comedy festival. It's funny you should say that because when I first joined this site a few years ago I wanted (like many Adelaideians) for a Nth/Sth freeway to be built and I got shot down in flames and had induced demand forced down my throat!!! Now it seems...

[COM] Re: #PRO: Southern Expressway duplication | $445m | 22km

The upgrade of the southern expressway is a waste of valuable tax payers money!!! Induced demmand people, if the road is made more user friendly, then everyone will want to use it and of course it will reach capacity and require more lanes to be built, when will this madness end??? :| This governmen...

[U/C] Re: South Road Upgrades - Discussion thread

They claim that without it the expressway would reach capacity in the morning peaks within two years. That seems unlikely to me, as I'd expect the bottlenecks to be much bigger downstream... although I admit I've not used the Expressway in the morning peak, so comments from those people who have wo...

Re: #U/C | Port Stanvac Desalination Plant | $2 Billion Plus

We'll all be singing kumbaya when our water rates go through the roof to pay for this white elephant. And what will you be singing when we have our next drought? And what were we singing during the last one when water restrictions were costing a pretty penny? *still waiting to hear what the alterna...

Jim! Howya Doin' Buddy? Wow $13billion for that hospital now? Who woulda thunk? Imagine the freeway we could have! We could probably have a cloud seeder too, to drought-proof us, for that kinda money! Hey! Do you wanna be Premier? You must be a public servant, hey you should use a photo of Mickey a...
