Re: Suggestions on boosting tourism in SA?
To really attract international tourists, you need our best assets accessible without a car. Plane fares and hotels are already expensive, last thing you want to do is make them rent a car. What I would like to see done to boost tourism in Adelaide: Regional rail. We're not trying to sell Adelaide. ...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
I am very anti-sprawl, but living overseas has made me grateful and proud of coming from Adelaide. Adelaide sure does have it's positives and negatives, but overall, Australian sprawl is still more dense; https://maps.google.com/?ll=-34.87896,138.648663&spn=0.031756,0.084887&t=h&z=14 Tha...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Parklands
As for our slogan - "Adelaide - Heaps Good" - I like Austin's - "Keep Austin Wierd!" I personally don't like that slogan. "Heaps Good" sound like Kiwi slang more than Australian slang. It sounds like an empty statement. "Adelaide's heaps good." "What's s...

Re: Non-Places and Places
Is a pedestrian mall with a Kiddie Tram ride down the middle. ;) (The Grove in LA) Thank you for clarifying that. I just chose a bunch of images for example's sake on how narrowing a road can affect its feel. I appreciate knowing that you enjoy reading my blog! A few compliments make the time spent...

I've published a new blog post on human-scale walkable streets. I've included some photos of Adelaide.

The setback you're talking about, I generally call a 'pedestal' building. I used the Empire State Building on my blog as an example ( http://www.andrewalexanderprice.com/blog20121015.php ). If you had a straight up 100 story cement/stone wall right next to you, it would feel intimidating to say the ...

Tall does not mean good. Dubai and Chicago are 'tall'. But the buildings are divided by wide roads, blank sides/backs that you have to walk the width of to get next door. They're not very good walkable urban environments.

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
I always thought the bowden station was the worst in Australia but now its just pathetic after the paint job that was done to it. Bowden isnt that bad. The station building is at least being used now by a cafe. Eventually the station will be underground. Take a look at Islington station for the wor...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
As for Wi-Fi, it's neither hot or cold for me. Won't be rushing to town to use it. Last thing I want to do is surf the internet, check my mail, do my banking etc., in public. If used for school and studies then it would be good. For emergencies also. But in general it is more unwanted radiation to ...

Re: News & Discussion: Toll Roads
I think future road investment should be more of a toll option. I for one am tired of the mega dollars devoted toward such a selfish and outmoded transportation option such as the motor vehicle. If you want to drive your Falcon and Commodore everywhere, then pay up. The taxpayer should not subsidis...

Non-Places and Places
I just released a blog post about the concept of Places and Non-Places in cities: http://andrewalexanderprice.com/blog20121015.php In my opinion, the goal of a good urban planner should be to minimize the amount of non-places that exist in a city, and I go into great detail about why and how to cate...

I am all for an underground rail link that would pass through the centre of Rundle Mall.
On a side note, I recently wrote a long blog post on the downfalls of car-dependency http://andrewalexanderprice.com/blog20121001.php

Re: #PRO: Port Adelaide Tram | #COM: Entertainment Centre Tr
The Libs make a good point "If Labor can afford to splash out $100 million on a tramline extension, then it can afford to honour its $75 million Darlington interchange promise.'' I think it's either $100m on making a big improvement to public transport in the City, or $75m on a couple of fly o...

Re: #VIS: CBD Tram Loop
The image above, which was released earlier today, shows the State Government's preferred route for a future city tram loop. From the West Terrace tram stop, the route will travel along West Terrace, Currie Street, Morphett Street, Sturt Street, Halifax Street, Carrington Street, Regent Street, Fro...
