Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
I think the adelaide CBD Apartments are now in over supply. every corner you can see some apartment construction going on in 2-3 years, when all these apartments are built, available on the market, how many people will really want to live there?? I think not THAT MUCH.. compare to the rooms availab...

Re: Please, no more freeways
claybro: I honestly understand your concerns, because you're trying to adapt what I describe into the context of your current suburban lifestyle. Doable, yes, but trying to adapt your lifestyle in an environment built for the automobile, without an automobile, is honestly miserable. So I agree. I re...

Re: Please, no more freeways
I think our wide roads are a significant factor that contributed to our sprawl. I'm not talking about the CBD roads planned 150 years ago,, I mean the average residential road is extremely wide, and I have noticied a corelation between street width and the preferred mode of travel. Narrow streets te...

Whenever I a thread like: "Is Adelaide ever going to have Highway or Tunnel?" "Southern Expressway Stage 3" "U/C: Southern Expressway Duplication | $445m | 22km" I'm just want to shout NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! And here's why: Currently, Adelaide, like many cities across...

I think the dirt just temporary during construction until they can get the supports and frame up.Matt wrote:"On land path" is a bit disappointing. I was under the impression the boardwalk would be wooden and over the river's edge.
Hey ho.
Are the supports visible yet?

A lot can change in 80s (or even 10) years, surely. Not that I would want Luna Park back in Adelaide. It's very old-fashioned. However I certainly would like to see something fun in Adelaide. However I haven't seen any suggestion that anyone is even thinking of building any serious tourist attracti...

To be honest, I'm not impressed with that video. I was hoping for something that was compact, walkable, and pedestrian oriented - yet they built more automobile-dependent hell. Someone needs a slap in the face. Every exterior shot I see cars out numbering people. What is this? Texas?

Re: South Australia- An independent nation
Why stop at polygamy? Why not include animals as well? Or how about we allow adults to marry children as well? Lets do away with laws, moral and ethics..and let it be a free for all orgy of anarchy and barbarism. Your logic is flawed. You're implying: A doing B. I don't like A doing B, therefore I ...

Re: Is Adelaide ever going to have Highway or Tunnel?
I can't believe there are literally swathes of empty blocks of land in what is supposed to be the CBDs of St Louis and Oklahoma cities. It truly is bizarre. It suburban flight taken to the extremes. I've met many people that try to distance themselves from the "city" which conjures up ima...

Re: South Australia- An independent nation
For the purpose of argument and for the separation of state and the church, the state should stay out of the wedding business all together. If we considered weddings to be a religious/cultural ceremony with no legal meaning (other than the wife requesting a change of surname, and becoming each othe...

Re: Is Adelaide ever going to have Highway or Tunnel?
I hope we don't have a CBD freeway. I have seen the effect of this on many cities in the United States, and while I have still seen some great cities, more often than not it's drained the life out of them. Look at satellite images of Houston: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=houston&hl=en&ll=2...

Re: South Australia- An independent nation
I don't give a shit who Joe Bloggs down the road chooses to marry, and nor should he about me. Does that mean you also support the legalization of Polygamy? Should polygamy/gay marriage be illegal? Why should we have an official stance on it at all? To put simply, should 'marriage' even exist in a ...

I agree with the idea of a viewing area on the top floor. The upper level needs to be a destination in its own right. I remember when dazzleland was there you were always looking up wondering what was going on up there. I don't think ive looked up when in the Myer centre in the last 15 years (becau...

Is anyone else worried about the effect of opening up a big box store to the local economy?
After living in the United States I have seen many neighbourhoods drained of their business vibrancy due to WalMart, Sams Club, Target Superstores, etv.

Re: Infill Developments | Metropolitan Adelaide
Height is not a sign of maturity. The great cities of Europe, for example, chose and continue to choose ground-density over height. A city with dense 3 story buildings, vibrant streets, and lots of retail at ground level is a lot more lively and livable than a city covered in skyscrapers, but each s...
