[COM] Re: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m
A lot of this commentary should be moved to the Beer Garden I think. Part of why I enjoy dropping in to S-A is the actual debate and commentary on proposals and projects that is often informative. I reckon the tone and content of posts more recently (across many topics) has been moving more to a Fac...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Don't forget to throw in the safety factor - how many punters down multiple drinks at these events - and in the past, drove home? It is so relaxing at these events if things are going well to be able to say "yep - I'll have another" and know that you can safely get home.

That's a pretty good effort - but suspect the cost manager may have a say on that - the main focus for developer is return on their investment. It's always a fine balance between achieving architectural merit and maximum return for the one actually risking big $$'s.

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
I did actually read the APPA submission - and I cannot see why so much rage at this document? It is after all: public consultation, roadworks in parklands that are protected by legislation and as per my previous posts, a poor scheme that really needs a re-think before proceeding. Apart from some fun...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Ignoring the off-hand disparagement of the APPA submission - I think the recent submissions from the impacted Councils demonstrate that this is a political project and not fully thought through as yet - and we must stop to think through strategically how best to allocate $160M to maximise the opport...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I wouldn't dismiss the Bus vs Tram argument off-hand. There are a range of really interesting projects in UK and elsewhere around electric busses and busways, such as: http://www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/streets-transport-and-parking/bus-travel/bus-projects/electric-bus As always - there is no silver bu...

Re: #Official Defence Thread
Surely the main issue here is the fact that we are a small nation - and we are not going to have a massive volume of ongoing naval build - we simply cannot justify this. I agree, maintaining capability and a core ship-building industry is strategically important - but I also agree with the model pro...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Trying to remain neutral - but I do query whether said "minority" are actually those who will be directly impacted by the re-alignment and project and have most to lose / gain. The so called "majority" are only transient through this area, and provided the outcomes are achieved (...

Re: Fringe Festival
I agree it is great to have green, lush grass everywhere - but the Glenelg re-cycled water is still not free and hence I can understand how they need to balance costs versus everything lush and green. What we really need is some good rain - and perhaps they need to consider alternatives to placing m...

Re: The Federal Politics Thread
Keep it up Dog, but keep it non-partisan. :applause: If you do it well I'll split it off to another thread. All good - was stirring the pot. I love this page - always entertains. Was just echoing the concept that a "scorecard" page could be started - it would need to catch both broken and...

Re: The Federal Politics Thread
Time to create dog's own posting page I think - then we can choose whether to read or not. Everyone is getting a little excited - elections are simply job interviews - not black and white, die in the ditch promises. Until you get into power, there is no way you can truly fathom the full details on e...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
Muzzamo - I'll back your guess - that's how I would play it if I was running the show. Time will tell - they are asking a lot of work to try and have something for the election period. I reckon we are about to have a crazy election given one gov is ready to anything for a 4th consecutive term, and t...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
Interesting point you raise rubberman. If I recollect, an upgraded N-S corridor saves something like 12min travel time (assuming you travel the full extent - not really sure where this is measured from but expect it would be the most optimistic / beneficial number to support the business case). So y...

Re: Tram Signal Priority
And one of the points of a tram network is that life is not all about the cars. Some adjustments, changes to driving patterns is inevitable if trams enter the network - people will get over it and adjust to whichever solution they adopt - but please, adopt a solution and don't try and make a win-win...
