Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Fairly confident Labor will at least have costed plans to extend tram to Prospect, and commit to Outer Harbor electrification. Potential feasibility study into extension of rail to Aldinga and tourist rail to Barossa (this would require a heavy subsidy from state govt., no doubt). Trains and trams ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Yeah, I don't think our ticketing upgrade can be seen as anything but responsible and successful. It might not be the most advanced, but it was affordable, on budget and without disaster. I'm happy to have missed out on the slight benefits of higher spec tech to avoid the farces that played out in ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

Park and ride just pushes the traffic jam back into the suburbs. The area surrounding O-Bahn stops should be transit-oriented developments. This is expensive real estate and car parks are for inexpensive real estate! transforming it into a TOD wouldn't suddenly make everyone who currently uses Para...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy

It's rather ironic that interstate people were employed. This is the classic job market situation. I'm sure people applied that were from here and could easily do the work, but they just went for their mates. We also have people on this forum who argue that the government should hire experts in pub...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

The old Islington Workshops line at Islington Station, the most eastern line could become a bus interchange, you could build a road from Davenport Terrace and come out near Hungry Jacks, you could also add stairs / lift to the bridge. This eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross the ARTC track...

Re: Beer Garden

Qantas and Air New Zealand have done flights like that as sight-seeing flights over Antarctica. Very few people have heard of it and you'd think that would be more popular now. There's one company chartering a plane to do this, but not for a few months: https://antarcticaflights.com.au/ Adelaide Va...

Re: Should the O-Bahn be converted to light rail?

London DLR is light Metro using a third rail for power source....it is also totally grade separated. You can't have a third "live" rail in city streets. Yes you can! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground-level_power_supply Here's an example of it in Sydney: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/com...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

What sounds like an Onion article, ACC has green lighted a “drivers month” to encourage people to drive into the city — instead of every other city that is investing in public and active transport. Door prizes for parking, allowing cars to use bus lanes, and happy-go-lucky marketing campaigns. What...

Nine storey, but only seven apartments. How does that work?

Re: Should the O-Bahn be converted to light rail?

The Amount of buses in Currie and Grenfell Street is unsustainable during our peak hours. If they continue down the bus route, then they really need to build a bus tunnel in the CBD. If not, then replace it with heavy rail. No need to build a tunnel if they convert Currie and Grenfell Streets to tr...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

The thing about light rail conversion is that it would mean the underground section uses smaller tunnels. Making it cheaper = more chance of it getting done. Modern trams like Citadis can be fitted with ground level power supply (essentially a third rail between the tracks.) This further reduces th...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Adelaide is already the last remaining capital without an underground CBD link. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have had them for decades, and Perth for a decade now. But yes, it is a critical missing link. Yes it is a critical link, but...it has to be planned and done well, not hurried. It has to b...

Drive in theatres are not just competing with cinemas, they're also competing with watching a movie at home. I doubt that it would make enough people leave the house.

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Yes, that's what that part of South Road needs, buses added to the already existing congested mix. That's around the time of the first planned traffic switch. Might there be indented bus stop bays at those six stops (three in each direction)? It's much slower for buses to have to merge with traffic...
