Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

Hard to believe the Riverside Centre is only 30 years old, really. I completely get that the Riverside Centre and the InterContinental and other buildings in the ASER project are not to everybody's taste, and there is the valid claim that they also partly enroach on the parklands. That said, I don't...

Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport

I think the mid-term future for the rail corridor could lie somewhere between all the recent posts on here - how about extending Adelaide Metro services one more stop to Concordia from Gawler Central, integrating the new station with a bus interchange that would serve both LinkSA and private operato...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

I'm sure they would have all worked together to come up with the plan they have now. But they (the private and the public sector) would be coming in looking to spend as little as possbile. For Walker and Skycity it would be a case of knowing that this would not be one of their landmark projects, an...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

I think maybe it's not clear as to who will pay for and operate what in this project. From what I can tell, Walker Corp. will own and operate the office tower, the car park and the retail building. The State Government will own and operate the plaza space (which is why they will essentially be payin...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

The Adelaide Crows (AFC) have put on hold indefinitely their proposal for the redevelopment of the Aquatic Centre site. The detail of the announcement seems to go further with the words "officially withdraw" included. The full statement is on the AFC's hompage.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Both tram lines are operating at a good frequency as is, which is very similar to other light rail services around the world. Exactly. I'd love to know how the new private operator will increase frequency, iron out all the bumpy sections of track mentioned above and 'optimise customer services' sin...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

Since one of the main selling points of the contracts by the State Liberal Government is that they will deliver 'better integration of services', yet they also claim that they will continue to own the infrastructure, set the fares and decide the services, one does really wonder what has been prevent...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

I knew that the Adelaide Railway Station had been given some money in the last State Budget, but I had no idea that the changes and improvements were this extensive. It's also, dare I say for Adelaide, unusual for this much consideration of historical tradition to go into a project. If they can some...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Major construction has begun on the Gawler line electrification project with late night closures having begun to allow the installation of concrete footings for the gantries and wires. At the moment they are working from Adelaide station to Dry Creek.

Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport

“This gives the South Australian Liberal Government three months to reassess its cut in funding for the service — which is primarily used by South Australians.” "primarily used by South Australians" ... to travel to Victoria to spend their money. Inbound tourism is an export industry. Sou...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Deutsche Bahn is the state rail operator of the Federal Republic of Germany. If they win the contract, what the Liberal Government is essentially telling you is that it's fine for any efficiency savings to go to the German state, instead of the state of South Australia. We've been through all this b...

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects

I'm glad for it and hope to see a similar treatment one day applied to the full length of Gawler Place. It's a much enhanced entrance to the Mall, especially once the trees mature. But there are few design choices that niggle me. For one, the hanging garden 'arbours' -- IIRC, we got these rather th...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

I'm still of the opinion that Rundle Road should be closed and Rymil and Rundle Park(s) merged and a two lane road connecting Grenfell Street with Rundle Street east (either side of the O-Bahn tunnel). I think the argument that taking away Rundle Road and its parking would kill trade for the area c...

It really does depend on where you are, however. On a visit to Adelaide for a few weeks in late Oct - early Nov, I was fortunate to see the skyline from many angles - Mt Lofty, Light's Vision, the Torrens Lake, and even far away whilst driving in Wynn Vale, Hillbank and near Mawson Lakes, and Westpa...
