Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

They should name and shame the businesses threatening to sue council over the provision of on street car parking, so that I and everyone I know can avoid ever spending a single cent at their business.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

So westbound will be dumped at a dead end on west terrace? Not to mention a right hand turn across Wakefield St for the dog leg completely undermines the point of an east-west route. Only these clowns could come up with something so ridiculous. Im guessing there's some vocal "ratepayers" i...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Service & Policy

At the moment it isn't being run in the interests of people, its being run in the interests of it's staff. And how much of the department's budget is spent on auditing, middle management busywork, "white ribbon compliance", LGBQTI, Indigenous, and other "non-core" activities? Th...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Service & Policy

The assets, fares, and service frequency decisions all remain in the state's hand. It's disingenuous to suggest the operator's financial goals, and therefore contractual financial obligations, have no influence on pricing and service delivery. The State Government certainly isn't doing this to incr...

How can ACC not see this coming?
They probably do, and why I wonder if it's a crafty strategy to finally kill the thing entirely.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

(and that doesn't even require going for the more compact formats you can find in some European cities) I love the self serve express coles/woolies/independents in Melbourne (I assume they have them north of the border too) although I'm not sure if Aldi has a comparable format anywhere in Aus. Even...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

I guess the only other available option to make this work is turning it into a one way st. Given you cant even traverse waymouth st from west to east (without detouring around light sq).

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

I understand they've reached some in-principle decision to focus on Pirie/Waymouth. Does seem like an attempt to give it the kiss of death. If they're citing concerns with "changes to traffic and parking arrangements (which) will cause concern to some members of the community" on wide stre...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Not really. If you had a right turn arrow cycle that was tram activated, the right arrow would turn green and any cars in front of the tram would clear off out of the way. This is pretty easy to program into traffic light controllers these days. And if there's trams approaching from either directio...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

If the commercial genius' that make up the base of ACC's "ratepayers" (most of whom, I would submit, are actually landlords and not the people running the businesses) cant appreciate the value of vastly improved tram services running past their door step, there's very little hope for them....

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic

A hundred million bucks for some terminating lanes on Portrush road? Literally spaces for people to park their cars while waiting at red lights?

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

:wallbash: ? What's wrong with this idea? Sure, it might bring more cars into the city, but until private vehicles are matched with adequate/reliable public transport, I don't think we can expect people to go without. And this is coming from someone who rides a bike, rides on PT and wants to see an...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

Lol, welcome to the new ACC, where improving accessibility is code for free parking. Clearly ahead of the curve because I thought every other city in the world moved away from making private motor vehicles the focal point of transport. https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/messenger/city/lord-mayor-sandy-v...

Re: What other areas should host the Tour Down Under?

Don't forget that each stage needs 2 sprint zones and 1 King of the Mountain with a significant enough gradient on the route up the hill. The sprints can be pretty much any where that a town has a roughly flat main street - not much shortage of them in SA. Are there detailed rules for a KOM? Presum...

[COM] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

So what? A bank could still take mortgage over the crown lease. Weak excuse for the mismanagement of tax payer funds. the lease/land in question is the actual Adelaide Oval, what exactly should they take up as collateral? It's only mismanagement if the project fails, otherwise I guess that the dire...
