Re: News & Discussion: Trams
interesting discussions here. to assist in the discussions, here are a few facts based on experience working on light (and heavy) rail construction (as opposed to reading websites) that will impact cost of projects. - cost of light rail (and heavy rail) per km does not necessarily decrease with incr...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
grand unions are extremely expensive, and due to tight light rail track standards, geometrically difficult to construct (intersection needs to be dead flat). there are only a few left operating around the world (incl one in melbourne which is worth seeing), and unless the network absolutely needs it...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Time to focus our thoughts on other things. The poles were old, in very poor condition and had not been designed to carry the loads required by modern light rail overheads. Coming from someone who has the facts. It would've been like knocking down a house from 1895 and building a new two storey hous...

The latest design of the new Bolivar interchange has northern on and off ramps, as well as southern on and off ramps. ie all movements to and from the NC will be available at that interchange. Can only presume that it hasn't been released to public as not all approvals / agreements are in place?

Re: SA Liberals propose new road, airport, rail bypass
Living in the area and having school aged kids, the fact that the major freight route runs past the front door of no less than 6 schools before it reaches Hampstead Rd (Loreto, St Josephs Memorial, St Ignatius College, St Josephs Payneham, Trinity Gardens Primary, Vale Park Primary) is a major conce...

Easy there on the poor engineers
This is only the DPTI reference design. Once a design and construct contractor is onboard, they will start the detailed design and the station will start to look more acceptable from an urban design perspective.

I must confess, I am one of the NIMBYs concerned about this one. I am extremely keen for medium density in the area, and am happy for this proposal to eventually proceed, but I do believe the design can be refined to make it fit with its immediate surroundings a little more appropriately. My main co...

Still very early days guys... A preferred tenderer has not even been selected. Late this year it is likely a design and construct contract will be awarded, with detailed design taking place in first half of next year. There will be ample opportunity for all stakeholders to influence final design. It...

Finally...my chance to be a NIMBY as this one is about 100m from my house! Unfortunately, I have read through the DA application and I cant quite find anything to complain about... currently the majority of Peregrine workers park in our street all day, so the 300 car parks is a huge positive (the DA...

[CAN] Re: 51-57 Hutt Street | 42m | 12 Levels | Mixed
I am torn with this one. The one thing that bothers me is that there are so many less significant or attractive sites in the CBD that would be preferable to demolish, than these examples of beautiful Victorian architecture. eg 60s/70s/80s solid brick buildings with almost no architectural merit. I d...

[COM] Re: PRO: Northern Connector | 14km | $1b
DPTI is delivering the works outside of the main contract as preliminary works. Due to the time required to allow the fill to settle, they couldn't afford to wait until a head contractor was onboard. The same works needed to be done regardless of which tenderer won. Additionally, DPTI is upgrading t...

They are installing new large diameter water mains along the eastern edge of the road corridor, so they can remove the existing water mains that are within the current South Rd alignment (and will consequently be demolished once road construction begins). This is the first of many service relocation...

They are preloading the site with fill, to ascertain level of subsidence. This will then feed into the road structural design.
