[VIS] Re: Interstate Trains at Adelaide Railway Station

The train also has no USB ports, and minimal powerpoints at the end of each carriage by the doors (lucky I stocked up on powerbanks). The train is also painfully slow (especially the Ararat-North Shore leg), with an average speed of just 85km/h. Tuesday I had to take a couple of V/Line V'Locities, ...

That looks like a hefty bridge for a single track. From what I've read, it's not supposed to ever support a second track, but it looks like it can.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

Also, while we're at it, may I put my hand up for modern fast loading 3 door buses. We had 3 door loading in the days of bus conductors, and European (outside the UK) practice is pretty much 100% low floor, 3 door loading for non-artics, and up to 5 doors for artics. These modern buses load and unl...

[U/C] Re: Port Adelaide Dock Spur Line

Presumably the connection could be removed again if the project were to go ahead? I would have thought it would not have been politically safe to leave the museum cut off for X years whilst the project was reevaluated. Why does the connection need to be cut off? Why couldn't they have a set of poin...

Does anyone know what the reasons are for the speed restrictions in the Adelaide Yard? Trains always seem to go extremely slow until they exit the yard.
Is this a recent thing?

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It's about people thinking they're more entitled to a service because they travel further. What we need is a higher frequency service so people use it, express services will cause longer wait times, especially services that express a lot of stations. A minimum 15 minute service is needed during the...

No, one that can be shared. But as said above, a City Loop could open up ARS to make it more feasible. Make ARS for feasible for what? If we build an underground CBD loop, ARS as it currently stands is all but redundant! The solution should NOT be a rail loop which will only get congested in under ...

Re: Vision: CBD Underground Rail Loop

Now that the Seaford and Tonsley Lines are electrified the State Government should be selling the land above especially in areas such as Ascot Park, Oaklands, Hove (once grade separation is done), Noarlunga Centre, Seaford. A underground city rail loop with stations in the right places could help b...

[COM] Re: Flinders Rail Link

Either way, I doubt the Seaford Line will have all trains run express from Woodlands Park. The inner portion still needs a decent frequency, so I imagine that, if both the Flinders and Seaford lines will run at a 30 minute frequency at night and on weekends, they will combine for a 15 minute freque...

Re: Great Southern train from Adelaide to Brisbane: Australia's new luxury train unveiled

Here's a thought - to make it really unique!! Get it pulled by a 'c38' to Albury, a Vic.' s' class to SA and the '621' to Adelaide. That'll get the real historical element in if high speed is not a major issue. This sort of thing is getting quite a bit of appeal in Britain. Trouble is the associated...

'Left-turn slip lanes to be removed at Adelaide intersections following four pedestrian deaths' reports ABC News It's about bloody time, but I'd note there are some other dangerous ones not mentioned for removal. The problem with slip lanes in Adelaide is that the pedestrian crossings are poorly ma...

Then just replace it with Uber. I mean, that will probably be cheaper than giving their mates the $1.7 million grant.

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Service & Policy

That's terrible news. The other thing responsible for fewer trips is unemployment. With fewer people working, fewer people need to take public transport.
