Re: News & Developments: Bowden TOD

I take your point, and hate to make assumptions so apologies if I'm wide of the mark, but I'm guessing when living in an apartment you were young and / or didn't have a young family - and many apartment builds will continue to cater for that market. My point was that if we are to entice families aw...

Re: News & Developments: Bowden TOD

Therein lies the problem of apartments in Australia... they are perceived as being sub-par as compared to landed houses. And maybe that is at least partially justified with some of the quality issues seen interstate, which has seen entire buildings deemed unlivable. Agree the offering overseas is s...

What's with the big FLINDERS letters that aren't in anything close to their fairly recent rebranding?

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Urban Sprawl & Density

Finally! It does need to be more than higher density residential though, they need to plan for retail, services, and other mixed used within the area surrounding the station. You need replace those trips (or stops on the way while commuting) with places accessible by walking between the station and ...

News & Developments: Bowden TOD

JK99 wrote:Hopefully they do scrap it and go for more retail/housing
It won’t be retail. In the discussions I’ve had with Renewal SA, they’ve pretty much said retail is unviable without the daytime foot traffic commercial offices would bring. Essentially this building needed to come first.

Re: News & Developments: Bowden TOD

Hearing that the 6 Park Tce office development has been scrapped, citing high office vacancy in the CBD (never mind that that high vacancy is almost all low quality space that it wouldn't actually be competing with, but whatever). Will be interesting to see what Renewal SA say about it, considering ...

They lost me at "trackless trams". It's a bus.
Relevant video (stay for the brief O-Bahn cameo):

Re: News & Developments: Bowden TOD

I feel like Renewal SA got lazy with the delivery and loaded it with townhouses to speed it up. That was absolutely it. There were a few years where they really struggled to sell apartments (the failure of The Standard, and how long it took to sell 354), so they switched to 3 bedroom townhouses and...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

The tracks are on a curve and trains are traveling at speed since most don't stop at North Adelaide station. Drivers can't see anything until it's too late. Ever since the previous fatality, trains have limited their speed around that curve (even if they're not stopping at North Adelaide), and usua...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Very sad news. But why that particular spot? The tracks are on a curve and trains are traveling at speed since most don't stop at North Adelaide station. Drivers can't see anything until it's too late. Ever since the previous fatality, trains have limited their speed around that curve (even if they...

Re: News & Discussion: Other Metropolitan Developments

That's a crazy underutilsation of the West Lakes land in a housing crisis. Waterfont and 10km from the city! But apparently the ample detached single storey character of the neighbourhood has to be protected? This government's attitude to development is not fit for the times. Residents that were ha...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

Apparently 2024 is some kind of reverse year. Adelaide City Council has committed to opposing all development in the parklands for 5 years, and the Adelaide Park Lands Association calling that unrealistic and wanting sporting facilities and clubrooms upgraded.

Can't wait for the SMA to jack up food and drink prices in a cost of living crisis yet again.
