Re: New Retail in the CBD

It was never going to do well, being two doors up from Cibo. The branding is all wrong too. Sure, lots of bright green and yellow is supposed to convey "organic" and "healthy" - but it most certainly does not communicate "coffee". Tea maybe, smoothies maybe, but not cof...

[COM] Re: U/C: Globe Apartments | 50m | 15lvls | Student

It depends on the time of day. In the morning and middle of the day, it's bland as hell. But in the late afternoon/sunset the light picks up the detail in the pre-cast and it looks quite nice. At all times of day however, the multicoloured paint underneath the balconies looks terrible.

I find it rather bland as well. We've seen plenty of proposals like this. What I do find interesting is their initial design concept: The initial design concept was derived from a building by New York Architect Ben Van Berkel – images below: The primary design element is the simple horizontal bandin...

Small venues in rented digs come and go. Always happened, always will. Obviously the JM is a terrible looking building from every angle and not the sort of thing a new multi-million dollar hotel would want bordering their property. Years ago I may have sided with the hipsters and described its look...

Oh bloody hell :wallbash:

The council should be doing all they can to encourage more interesting development like this.

Re: SA's Triple AAA Credit Rating

Will, I'd hazard to say when it comes to our interstate folk, there's two types of reactions regarding Adelaide Oval. One is the "Wow, something is actually being done/built/changing in Adelaide" kind of reaction. Vague, but enough to make us feel good about ourselves. The other is the &q...

Are you sure it wasn't seating for the Christmas Pageant? there was lots of temporary scaffolding along King Willaim Street on Saturday.. That would be correct. There was scaffolding up to provide a viewing platform for the pageant. http://hello-es.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/hellofatherchristma...

The Jade Monkey should go down Casablabla's path, with the side alleyway transformed into a stunning outdoor bar area. This place is extremely popular and looks amazing. I seem to recall an interest in doing that at one stage, but they were blocked. Not sure if it was the council or the building ow...

let me get this straight. we're trying to inject life into the Rundle Mall precinct after hours, and demolishing the only live music venue in the area is going to do that? i don't visit the Jade Monkey regularly, but it is popular. not every bar or club has to look modern and bright. many people li...

That's sad. Personally I hope this proposal doesn't get off the ground for that reason alone. It's ridiculous that the hotel doesn't require that space at all, but they're going to demolish it regardless. What's the point? Surely having a quality entertainment venue set in a historical building next...

There seems to be contradictory statements in the document about what is happening with the Jade Monkey. At various points they mention that it requires demolition for this development, and at other points they mention it's earmarked for a separate application to be submitted, but then in other area...

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

How would making it a transit mall make it empty and lifeless? You're going to get far more people getting on and off buses then you are getting in and out of cars. It's not too hard to stop private vehicles going down. They manage ok in Melbourne. I want to see Victoria Square go ahead. For about a...
