Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Haven't the opposition already put forward their big super good idea? $4b to take the freight trains out of the peaceful Unley suburbs and put it through the northern suburbs where they belong [sarcasm]?

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

I wonder how long before DPTI give some indication of whether 528/548/G40 buses will detour off new bus exit to North Terrace via East Terrace or Frome Street?,or will they just continue down Grenfell and Currie Streets? Also as the whole busway timetable will have to be redrawn as a result of the ...

. It will be interesting to find out what’s going on with this one (TRANSPORTATION OF THREE CITADIS 302 LIGHT RAIL VEHICLES FROM MADRID, SPAIN TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA)… http://www.tendersonline.com.au/TenderDetails.aspx?uid=471501 This may be just to determine the total purchase and transport costs. Hopefully it will be built so that the line can eventually be duplicated
No need to unless the line was extended.

...We need a new route to enable trains to carry double stacked containers on the Melbourne route... Is double stacked even possible in and out from Melbourne? I didn't think it was. I've felt that if they moved the RAAF base to Monarto it'd open up Edinburgh for a more appropriately located Adelai...

Re: How did Victoria grow?

Let Sydney and Melbourne grow. Their infra. requirements backlog will continue to build. Commuting distances and rents will continue to skyrocket. Congestion, vehicular and pedestrian will worsen. Public open space, the city, universities will all become increasingly crowded. But only an hour and a ...

Re: Castle Plaza Shopping Centre Redevelopment

The plans are up and there appears to be no allowance for road widening. http://dac.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/315925/Application_Documents_100.e012.17_opt.pdf So the whole thing is built over open ground level parking? Could they have made it look more disgusting? No allowance for road ...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor

I came up with an alternative to the R4 and R5 sections. Most of the route follows James Congdon Drive from South Road, through to Port Road Thebarton, across diagonally to Cawthorne Tce up to the River Torrens, and again diagonally across with Adam Street to the existing start of the current Torre...

[COM] Re: Torrens Junction Underpass

How many people work at ASC/Techport? I understand it to be between 4-5,000. If they are running night shift it begins at midnight... I cant imaging DPTI would think its a good idea to run trains that late for the workers of one company. So cars it will continue to be for techport. The last train g...

Re: City to airport tramline

Nathan, rubber and fish, My main reason for favouring SDBD is the effect on the bus network. HBR is well suited to buses; many bus routes use it, and there are good bus priority measures. Converting just some of them to tram services would be disruptive, and fhere's no obvious alternative for diver...

Re: Adelaide Airport Hotel - | 25m | 8 levels | $50m

The drain (or as it's properly called, Keswick Creek) wouldn't provide the quickest connection to the City. Just reaching it would be far from easy, and then there's the problem of the roads that cross it. But supposing it were, that wouldn't make it the best route. Firstly, service frequency is mo...

Re: Adelaide Airport Hotel - | 25m | 8 levels | $50m

If it does go down Sir Donald Bradman Drive, [it may be] a good catalyst for streetscape development as well to enhance an attractive entry to the city. Henley Beach Road would also be good, however that road [seems to be evolving nicely on its own] . As for efficiency and frequency and further dev...

Re: Adelaide Airport Hotel - | 25m | 8 levels | $50m

I suggest that the question is whether the line is meant to serve the airport primarily. If so, then the drain, suitably prettied up provides the quickest connection to the city. Therefore: does the traffic from the airport economically justify a dedicated line (like Sydney's airport link), yes or ...
