Can anyone tell me more about the northern building of the Emergency Services HQ? All I’ve been able to find out so far is that it's for vehicles and equipment.
How much did it cost? What kind of footings does it have? And what are the tanks on the eastern side used for?

Edwards Park (was: Why all the netball courts?)
Every single court is filled on a friday night. Drive past for a look next time. I've now discovered that this is not so - those netball courts in Edwards Park (between Anzac Highway and the cemetery) have been disused for the last twenty years. So netball is very popular, but not that popular! Wer...

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
So you're against the NSM because that does a pretty good job of dividing up communities. DTEI/DPTI/DIT should have taken a lot more care not to divide up communities. For example between Regency Road and Torrens Road, all they're providing is a footbridge at Pym Street. If they did their job prope...

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
So a surface level motorway through suburbia is a no go, but an elevated motorway through suburbia is ok? :sly: A surface level motorway through a residential area is not OK, particularly if it divides communities. An elevated motorway through commercial and industrial areas is far less of a proble...

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
rev, So because a watercourse runs from west of the City to the airport, you think it's OK to blight some residential suburbs by running a motorway through them on that alignment? There are many things that could be done - it doesn't actually mean they're worth doing. We don't have the demand for he...

1NEEDS2POST, It's a lot smaller than you seem to think it is! _______________________________________________ rev, Culvertization is something that's been done successfully before, including further upstream (alongside Windsor Street in the Unley area). A culvert would need to be bigger than the cur...

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
Ho Really, Diverting a creek does not eliminate all water completely! And yes, I could come up with solutions for a drain. But they wouldn't be cheap solutions. If you only see it as a line on a map, you might think Keswick Creek could be a decent transport route (especially if you're so bad at read...

An O-bahn that floods every time it rains???1NEEDS2POST wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 9:43 pmAnother totally different idea: instead of a tunnel, we could have a lowered O-Bahn along Keswick Creek.

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
Having thought about it a bit more, I've realised a straight extension of Morphett Road would not be suitable for the cheapest form of tunnel (which involves digging a trench, lifting in a box culvert and backfilling) because it would also affect the crosswind runway. However a tunnel from the centr...

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
The airport is already proposing connections to these roads for rideshare and freight vehicles without the need for tunnels. It's unclear to me what benefit general access would deliver for the cost. AIUI what the airport is proposing involves general access on an indirect route. If you were arguin...

Re: Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
I'm unsure how it follows from reduced aircraft numbers that the runways full length isn't required. Long runways are really only needed for long haul flights, but there are very few of those at the moment. I'm sure a commercial arrangement could be arranged with the airlines to keep those few serv...

Re: Relocating the Government House
At surface lèvel, I think we should leave it as it is. But underground, it would be good to eventually have a car park and an arcade of shops linking the Myer Centre and Festival Centre. And possibly even a bus tunnel as well as a railway station.

Tunnel under the airport ASAP!
I've finally thought of a way we could take advantage of Covid: With very few aircraft using Adelaide Airport at the moment, and widebodies in particular likely to be seldom seen this year and next, there's far less need to keep the main runway open for its full length. Which means we have a rare op...
