Re: Adelaide Casino commercial

Certainly many steps above the irritating commercials they had previously.

Re: Adelaide International Science Centre

It's actually called the Royal Institute of Australia (RiAus), and results from Baroness Greenfield's tenure of the Thinker-in-Residence programme a few years ago (evidence that something does actually come of it). It'll help position Adelaide at the centre of Australian science. I remember there wa...

[CAN] Re: #U/C: The Precinct - 5 x 18 lvl - 58m towers

Is it just me, or is cladding seeming less and less likely for the façade? Looks a paint job, à la Conservatory. Shameful.

Re: CBD Dry-Zone

I say a blanket dry zone should be in effect in any public place not legally designated a place where alcohol can be enjoyed (responsibly and in moderation). That's why patrons must be seated in the al fresco street seating outside pubs. The streets are not a pub. So much for champagne picnics then?

Re: [] News: Adelaide City Council

People should act less like cocks and put their unwanted goods in a bin for once, and that includes the great gobs of saliva and snot that neanderthal males heave up at random. That a gum business should be penalised for the laziness and ignorance of the great unwashed is laughable. Exactly. It's n...

There's more than just three levels still to be done though, yes?

Oh well, bit by bit...

however, i do ask the question if the design respects the existing theatre in terms of urban design, which may i add; is the second oldest theatre in Australia! Hear, hear. They'd (the developers) want to be very careful about how they address the Queen St Theatre, not only because it's a true trea...

Re: Heritage buildings left to rot

Bemoaning the heritage listing of one of the most heritage-worthy buildings in the city? What cruft! National Trust of SA spokesman David Beaumont said smarter architects and developers could ensure old and disused buildings were given a new lease of life. Hit the nail on the head there. I'll admit...

Re: Infrastructure and Planning Issues facing SA.

I wasn't aware that we had the lowest per capita tertiary qualifications or the highest per capita welfare burden, although the latter doesn't surprise me with our generally older population and higher unemployment as compared the rest of the country. "And the Legislative Council is a manifesta...

Re: #Official Defence Thread

Just as I suspected, there hasn't been much hype over the future sub contract due to the fact that no real decision has been made re location of construction... No, it's decided that they will be built in Adelaide, it's just not yet decided what or by whom (remember, we're at the very beginning of ...

Re: #U/C: [ City Central ] Masterplan Thread

I had to scoff when it was said that, in accordance with sustainability principles, the building was not designed to be there for just 5-10 years but for 20-40 years. That seems a fairly elementary understanding of sustainability. It also humoured me to hear Tower 2 described as representing the vib...

Re: ACC 3D Model Goes Online

Fantastic work. It's really quite exciting to think of all the potential this tool holds, especially in making the development process more publicly accessible. I'm confused, however, about whether the projects for which this tool will be primarily useful will even actually make use of it? It has be...

but if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, etc etc... Exactly. We've talked on this forum before about specialisation and niche industries -- the idea of finding something we're good at, or have natural advantages in, and throwing our full weight behind it. It strikes me that the arts i...
