Re: Electric Cars
You asked why and I answered why. ICE wastes most of its energy on heat which does not move the car. It is a furnace on wheels where 80% of the energy is converted in to heat. EV has to lug a heavy battery around but that doesn't cost more than the losses ICE has. Also that mass inertia I am sure th...

Re: Electric Cars
Also worth noting that public charging stations are likely a worst case scenario for the average EV owners. You likely would much prefer to charge at home or work because it is more convenient and cheaper. The reason ICE cars go to a for profit commerical petrol station is because you can't easily m...

Re: Electric Cars
You mean like the charging stations that are running on diesel generators? I am sure there are examples of that. Even SA grid at times has diesel burning. But 0.06% in the last 25 years doesn't seem like it is a particularly serious concern. 0.09% in the last year while 70% of the SA grid power cam...

Re: Electric Cars
ICE all you want is the explosion pushing the piston, any energy wasted on heat, noise, pumps, cooling etc is lost. You may redirect some of that heat to the cabin for passenger comfort but that is a very small perk. So ICE is apparently only about 20% efficient for the energy it consumes. Most of t...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Golden Grove Road was recently upgraded to have priority bus lanes through intersections out to the new area. Those buses directly feed in/out the o-bahn. Perhaps the stables shopping centre will eventually have a bus interchange and a park n ride also. The TTP/GG area has good bus connections to th...

Re: SA Economy
Some quick, dirty and terrible maths. Olympic Dam the world's fourth largest copper deposit has 2.95 billion tonnes of ore @ 1.2% copper. 1.2% of 2.95 billion tonnes is 35.4 million tonnes of copper. 35.4 million tonnes is 35.4 billion kg. EV car has about 80kg of copper. So Olympic Dam has enough c...

I thought events like gather round, Adelaide 500 and liv golf made Adelaide more livable.
Lacks of things to do is perhaps the biggest complaint potential, but mostly ignorant, interstate tourists have about Adelaide.

Re: M1 South-Eastern Freeway
Ways South Easter Freeway is better than North South Motorway.
Emergency stopping lanes.
Emergency telephones.
On/off ramp design.
Sight lines.
What features of the North South motorway would anyone want to replicate on the South eastern freeway?

Re: M1 South-Eastern Freeway
This project is a part of the while South-eastern freeway becoming a Managed Motorway with additional technologies such as lane use management, incident detection and others. This will bring it in line with existing freeways like the North-South Motorway. South-eastern freeway is an existing freewa...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I do think we should consider distance based ticketing in SA. The recent ads on how PT is better financially don't cut it when passengers pay full fare to travel four or five stops. My understanding is PT gets a great deal of large subsidy because it pays for itself by reducing congestion. If you e...

Pretty sure that IGA store if it were in Adelaide would be too large and would have standard trade restrictions applied.A-Town wrote:And yes, there is also a thriving IGA in Mount Barker.
So not sure what your angle is here. That size store is not what the trade restrictions are intended to protect.

Re: Petrol Station Owners
At the moment in SA, Convenience Stores that sell fuel have different trading restrictions from convenience stores that do not sell fuel. Our trading laws need a complete rethink in many areas, and this is another one. The largest supermarket in my area is the "independent" Foodland, bigg...

Electricity in SA is simple - buy solar and batteries.
