It would be interesting to see if Australian Unity buys this site as well after buying the site next door - that would give them the whole block between North Terrace, West Terrace, Rose Street and Newmarket Street to develop

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
How realistic is retaining heavy rail with "battery-electric" or "hydrogen fuel cell powered trains" as mentioned in the article? Japan has a few battery powered trains in service, and there is currently a hydrogen powered train in testing. The battery powered train that runs in...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
I never understood the ADL - MEL leg, thought it must have just been an empty plane (in this day and age!?) so they could centralise maintenance and crew accommodation out of MEL. Feedback from those travelling from AKL - DIA was that they HATED the stopover in Adelaide, which is understandable whe...

Sounds like we're losing the Doha- Auckland stopover with Qatar Qatar Airways' last Adelaide to Auckland flight will take off on August 31st. During Qatar's time servicing the route, it offered the Boeing 777-300, allowing business class passengers to taste the Q-Suite product trans-Tasman. https:/...

Can't read the article that's been posted on The Tiser, but it looks like Kyren are proceeding to build the development with no pre-commitments by any tenants.

Re: Crane Counter: CBD 10 | Metro 8 | Total 18
Well, Sydney has 6 million people... that's for starters. They're not all going to live in the CBD. The Sydney CBD is starting to run out of room for new developments so they have to build elsewhere. Whereas we've got ample development space in our CBD. 67 storey buildings are not needed in Salisbu...

It'd be a cost factor obviously. Far cheaper to build an above ground carpark than a basement. Valid point, it certainly would be. However, there would other services plant and equipment which is better located in a basement carpark than up on Level 1 (e.g. pumps for water supply and grease traps)....

Sounds to me that the entire tram network will be closed during the works as the South Road overpass is also going to be partially rebuilt to accommodate the North South Motorway.

Interested to hear why people think that excavating a basement is not possible because of the presence of an aquifer or high water table conditions on the site? Other cities navigate these all the time (Brisbane has heaps of these). They utilise basement walls that are designed to be wet, and the dr...

It's great to see an example of an older office building getting repurposed for a different use. There are too many older office buildings in this part of the city that are mostly empty and look ugly at the moment.

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Incl. 115m Tower | $800 million
I for one am interested to see where this second tower will sit. Hopefully it's closer to the King William St side of the site, to allow some space from the bulk that is Festival Tower. I'd also like to see a tower that uses a curved facade on a smaller footprint (think Souther Cross Arcade) but ta...

The current proposal of a three-storey building will obscure Parliament House, so they want to build a tower instead...? Do they intend to put it on 4-storey-hig stilts so we can see Parliament House underneath??? If something has to be built thee, I guess it might as well be "iconic", bu...
