You mean the NSW border right?

I don't think they did much damage to the sign on the border. It was mainly just stickers.

The players are in rundle mall today at 12 noon.

I have very little interest in soccer, though it was awesome to see the electric atmosphere at Adelaide Oval and the city yesterday. Great result for United and great boast for the city hotels and bars.

Will there be a ticker tape parade?

They set fire to it.

Pretty poor form, though I guess they are from Western Sydney.

Latest from the tiser... was not "deliberate vandalism".
THE damage caused to about 30 Adelaide Oval seats during the A-League Grand Final was not “deliberate vandalism’’ but caused by the exuberant behaviour of fans jumping on seats, authorities say.

The northwestern section of the oval where the damage occurred was primarily occupied by Western Sydney Wanderers fans who had travelled down from Sydney for the game, in which Adelaide United triumphed 3-1.

Advertiser.com.au was first to report the damage on Sunday night.

Stadium Management Authority general manager commercial Darren Chandler said while there was “some minor damage to seats, for us it’s not a major issue’’.

“It was a sensational day for South Australia, a great day for the stadium and the atmosphere was electric,” he said.

Mr Chandler said the damage had occurred when “enthusiastic’’ fans who had been chanting throughout the game stood on seats.

“It was not deliberate vandalism,’’ he said.

Like you said Crawf, you're not into "soccer".
They routinely stand on seats and jump up and down chanting.
Negligent thoughtless behavior is not vandalism.

I will state from the outset I am not a fan of soccer either, despite watching numerous games of my lad. However to make light of any damage to the stadium, or road signs or local amenities is to allow the soccer governing bodies off the hook. These incidences, no matter how minor, just re- enforce the idea for passive observers like myself , that soccer is still too tribal and ethnicly based in nature to gain widespread support for neutral spectators in australia. I dont recall any stDium damage at A f l games recently, and merely using bad language, booing inappropriately or holding up a racist sign will see you rapidly escorted from any AFL game. Damaged property and the weekly antics of certain supporter groups of soccer clubs can hardly be blamed on the pro AFL media. Soccer needs to clean up its act!

Central Districts supporters have set off flares in the past at AAMI stadium.

Western Sydney will most liklely start next season with -3 points and will also be fined as a result
of what happened yesterday. They already had a suspended sentence as a result of problems in the past.

And they were routinely condemned by all for doing so as well.

-3 will probably be the minimum penalty the Wanderers will get. There's every chance the FFA might slap a 3 point penalty for Sunday's incident plus invoke the suspended 3 point penalty from earlier in the season, making it a 6 point penalty.

There's talk of a street party later in the week.

I don't think they set fire to the sign, but did light a bonfire underneath it, plus put all the stickers on the sign. I say play on with the stickers, no different to Crows supporters decorating the 'Welcome ti Victoria' signs.

Which is what that article just stated.

So a bunch of fans from Western Sydney, made of many different ethnic backgrounds, but particularly Anglo Saxon, cause some damage to about two dozen seats at Adelaide Oval due to them standing and jumping on them while chanting/supporting their team, and "soccer" is again a sport full of those dirty tribal ethnics?
Sorry can't blame us ethnics anymore for the woes of that football code anymore in Australia, Frank Lowy took over and said no ethnics allowed..except his own Sydney FC whose origins lay in a team of his own ethnic/religious roots.

There's been plenty of damage during AFL/footy matches. Even during cricket.
Damage isn't just 30 broken seats.

But let's get to the point of this...the real issue isn't "soccer" or AFL. It's that some people in Australian society are dumb asses with no respect for others or their property. That's what the focus should be on, not on which code and what ethnicity the supporters are.

But clearly Rev, football (soccer) has a problem with governance worldwide and that cannot be blamed on the Australian public, whatever their nationality.
Clean up management, get the unruly crowd behaviour under control and soccer (football) just may get some more credibility and a more neutral, larger fan base in this country. To deny there is a problem just prolongs the sport reaching its full potential here.
