For the people at the Australian to support Mr. Rudd, it would suggest to me, that therefore a Rudd Labor governemnt would be just as mean and tricky as the Coalition, and continue to portray greed and selfishness as positive attributes to aspire to. As such, I am now seriously considering voting for the Greens in the senate. Although I disagree with many of their social policies, I would like to make some sort of protest vote.

The ALP are right next to the Coalition on that political compass thingy. Best to vote for the real deal, not the "me too" impostors I think it'd be best to give your primary vote to an independent if you're going to do the protest thing, but I say that as someone who'd throw a party if The Greens all died horrible deaths in a bus or plane crash. (I'd also do the same if it were the Socialist Alliance or Family First)

I hope all you croweaters put 1 next to Nick Xenophon for the Senate though... SA needs senators batting for the state, not their party. The last independent Senator, Brian Harradine from Tasmania, did very well in milking the government of extra goodies for his state.

I will probabaly end up drawing a picture on the ballot box. I know that people have died so that i could vote, but I honestly don't see a party or a candiddate that represents me. And like, Urban said, I can't vote Liberal. It would be a betrayal of all I believe in, if I voted for them.

Anyway unfortunately I think we may end up getting another Liberal win and Costello in power. F*ck I can't wait for that like a hole in the head.

On a further note, I find it hard to believe how easily it was to convince working people that it is good to freeze their wages to prevent a wages explosion. Although I understand the merits of such an initiative, and how it helps the economy, but my question is; why isn't there a wages freeze on executive, or CEO wages? Why are their wages allowed to explode by millions of dollars a year? And what irritates me, is that people earning $30 million a year, have the nerve to tell someone earning only $30 000 that they can't have a pay rise!

Hahahahaha. Bulldozer I have never laughed and almost cried so much in my life. The Liberals are the worst party to vote for in regards to the environment and even emissions.

Nuclear power will not cut emissions. The amount of energy taken to construct, maintain and mine the stuff is huge. Yes it will cut actual power generation emissions but add to huge emission increases elsewhere. The true answer is renewables. Advances are being made, even making solar panels more flexible to allow them to be applied all over buildings even curved sections etc. What has happened is that most of these renewables companies have moved off-shore thanks to the Liberals and a lack of support. Australia should be leading the way in this area due to our endless sunny weather. The rich and powerful power companies have ensured renewables remain an expensive option.

By now we should have also moved to solar battery powered cars that can perform well and can be recharged at home. This is 2007 for godsake not 1987! However the rich and powerful oil companies have made sure that will never happen. The amount of true corruption out there is shameful. People need to wake up and realise what is really going on in the world before it is too late.

Anyway vote cast. Lets watch another Liberals victory, yuck :wank:

Time will tell if this is a good or a bad thing, though Labor's past record isn't impressive but that is in the past and this is 2007.

As much as people might hate Howard and his party, he has helped build a stronger and proud Australia. It was interesting to hear Jeff Kennett say people under 30 have not experienced a real recession and people under 30 think the current conditions is the norm.

Also Rudd did not mention anything abolishing Workchoices in his speech so things are probably not going to change there (surprise surprise ), not happy to see so many unionists now in power especially when apparently there used to be always strikes on years ago and they wont help our economy at all.

Why do people think that unions are bad. Those strikes u are talking about were about making working conditons better for people being exploitid by their boss. Unions are an important part of keepimg jobs secure. Why do u think trades people have such a strong union behind them.

After so many years of waiting, I have to admit that i am very happy that the Liberals are out of office. However the victory of the ALP is not as sweet as it would have been in the past. I stand by the comments were I lament the fact that Rudd has adopted many Liberal policies. However there is a glimer of hope, in the fact that in his victory speech, Kevin Rudd did not mention that he was an 'economic conservative'. His repeated use of 'economic conservative' is what put me off somewhat from voting ALP. Because in the scheme of things, being an economic conservative implies that you want to destroy public schools, universities and Americanize our health care system into a user pay system. Furthermore it means increasing taxes for the poor to punish them for not 'living up to their full human potential'. I would rather Kevin Rudd have used, the phrase that he is 'economically responsible'. However, now that Labor is in power throughout all Australia, I hope that they see this as a clear mandate to make Australia a more caring and compassionate place. A country where the fair go is rebuilt. I hope that they remember the people that have been left behind by the Liberals and employ policies that allow them to attain a better future.
