Adelaide's best coffee?

#1 Post by AtD » Sat Jul 23, 2011 11:02 am

Surprised this hasn't come up before...

So I was back home recently and in need of coffee. I thought a place named "Bravo Espresso" would make a decent cup, but no, it was shit. It was like McDonald's coffee - boiling and weak. I actually threw it out.

That got me thinking, where are the places other people go for a guaranteed good coffee? Not just in the city, but in the suburbs too.

My two favorites are Coffee Branch, on Leigh Street and the Adelaide Coffeehouse on Grenfell Street. They make the best coffee in the city that I've come across yet.

bar 9 is pretty good, but it is a bit of a trek out to Glen Osmond Rd.

Cibo are a safe bet if you want decent coffee

If you want worst coffee in Adelaide, go to Hudsons.

I know I'm going to get slaughtered for this but Gloria Jeans in Rundle Mall made by far the best coffee I ever tasted. They also make an AMAZING Iced Chocolate on a warm summer day. Only downside is that it's full of emo's

I have heard positive reviews that a great place to have coffee is a place called the coffee barun
located on Main North Rd at Sefton Park, a few kilometres from the city.
They appear to have coffee cupping sessions on Saturday.
Further details on their website at http://www.thecoffeebarun.com.au/

And it appears they supply Zest at Glenelg, which is usefully closer than Sefton Park. A visit, methinks.

I've heard of that place, but I've never been there.

Another of my favourities is a coffeehouse nearby, Bracegirdles. It's so romantic up there on the balcony on a summer's evening.

There was a poll for best coffee in Adelaide.....

Last year in 2010, a vote was cast to find a place in Adelaide to get a great coffee in the Lexus of Adelaide ‘Best Coffee in Adelaide’ poll.

From the votes, the top 5 places voted by the public were
1. Felici - http://www.felici.com.au/ - Rundle St, Adelaide
2. Taylor Blend - http://www.taylorblend.com.au - Hallett Road, Stonyfell
3. Coffee Barun - http://www.thecoffeebarun.com.au/ - Main North Rd, Sefton Park
4. Bar 9 - http://www.bar9.com.au - Glen Osmond Rd, Parkside
5. Cibo on Rundle St - http://www.ciboespresso.com.au/ - Rundle St Adelaide

They then had 3 judges (professional baristas) visiting each of the places to judge the coffee. The three coffee judges were: Brian Raslan (owner of Caffe Buongiorno in Modbury as well as the owner and operator of the SA Coffee Academy) , Bill Comley (Vice President of the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association) and Sineenart (Fiefy) Anuwatanaphorn (South Australian Barista Champion).

The best coffee was scored on how the coffee felt when in the mouth, the colour, the aroma, the taste and in the case of the cappuccino, the temperature and the milk texture. A score was also given for service and ambience of the cafe.

The winning cafe that made the best coffee on the day was…Taylor Blend. The scores were extremely close, but in the end, Taylor Blend was judged as top due to the how fresh the coffee was, which came out in the taste.
