Thanks for sharing. Kind of a shame to have lost not only the Exhibition building but also its grounds/oval where the uni eventually expanded to the river. Would have been a perfect event area and kept the city more connected to its parks.

Yes very interesting. Seeing Adelaide's talls in the last image: T&G (11 storeys and 40.2m. Maximum height then allowed), CML, AMP (the original not the one at 1 King William Street) and Shell House.

Yes - there are so many things to look out for in these photos but some worth that extra mention:

The Jubilee Oval that was once used for the Royal Agriculture Society for the Royal Show before Wayville Showground was built, the same oval was also used by SANFL sides around the turn of the 20th century. The nearby Exhibition Building as mentioned by SRW was also part of the Show and other major events, sadly demolished in the 1960’s. And decades before these photos in the late 19th century, there was the railway branch line that ran to Jubilee – the embankment behind Government House the only reminder.

The Adelaide Bowling Club at (what was), the dead end of Kintore Avenue, the club was moved in the 1950’s to the East Parklands so Kintore Avenue could become a through road.

Half of the new Parliament House already built - the other half wasn’t completed until late 1930’s.

Clear view of the famous South Australia Hotel on North Terrace opposite Parliament which was demolished early 1970’s.

Victoria Square configuration as it was from around 1900 to late 1960’s before the diagonal road short cuts were added and the through KW St section closed off.

The original Palais Theatre on the Torrens at Elder Park.

Even by 1920/30’s standards the amount of cars parked around Adelaide Oval for an event.

And the overall theme from above really looks like a small European city.
