There is a heritage overlay on many of the buildings south of the stadium, so this is the hardest thing to do of all. It's not really necessary though...

My thought was removing the Southern stand entirely and using that space to move the ground further South, not the heritage buildings behind... i.e.



Totally agree on your other comments though. Just an idea if they ever wanted to really modernise it.

If they wanted to do this they would've done it long time ago when they modernised the stadium. The heritage buildings, the triangular shaped-land, Manton and Holden Streets and the light industrial/commercial surrounds are a thorn in the side of Hindmarsh Stadium. It's a deadend. Adelaide will need a compliant stadium eventually. So if the government spruikes about wanting a 30,000 seat stadium, do it properly for posterity. Simple no fart arsing around for the 10,000 extra seats. A state of the art stadium with sound, lighting and retractable roof will attract all kinds of events not just the round ball kind. Stop living in the past, be visionary and proud of Adelaide and SA.

A compliant stadium with what?

Asian Champions league - the ground is compliant. The AFC regs are fairly basic, requiring a 6,000 seat (fully seated) capacity at most. The ground has hosted an ACL final.

AFC Cup - we don't compete in this comp, but we likely will because our ACL performances have been woeful since WSW won the thing. There are almost no requirements here - we're talking about a continental comp against clubs in tin sheds like India and Burma here.

Asian Cup - there were not games held there when Australia hosted the last (hugely successful) Asian Cup because the state government decided it wasn't worth it and was caught with its pants down. Games were hosted at ground like Bruce Stadium which are across the board inferior to Hindmarsh.

A-League - as an actual football fan will attest, it's considered the best ground in the league by fans of not only Adelaide United, but also by opposition supporters. Remember that the new Melbourne franchise was admitted to the league with a promise to build its ow venue which has similar sight lines to Hindmarsh, similar capacity and an inferior location. It still beats the field over 20 years after reconstruction.

World Cup - the minimum required capacity of 40,000 is not achievable on this site, nor is it likely achievable wedged in next to the torrens for that matter. All World Cups are allocated until 2026 and the next available is 2030. This isnt urgent mate.

Rugby Union/League - sports that aren't played in SA (ok, a bit of union). Union's domestic league is in worse shape than the aleague at the moment and that's saying something.

Why don't you be proud of Adelaide and SA and recognise some of the things that Adelaide has once in a while .

Yes with FIFA. No one has said to build on the current Hindmarsh site. You won't get anything bigger than 20,000 if you are lucky squeezed inside the current boundary. Even if it was extended by 20 metres South and knocked over the old church! So what if the World Cup is not available until 2030? A stadium new build will require time to plan and to construct. Give yourself 4-5 years to do that and you'll only be 5 years away from a possible World Cup. Why not? As for building a stadium next to the Torrens look how much room you have at the University Oval and you could build a second Adelaide Oval, but we don't need that amount of room. It is central and can be serviced by the tram extension up into North Adelaide and a possible underground line that runs in between both AO and the this new stadium into the CBD servicing other important locations. Do you want me to post you a graphic?

You obviously haven't read much on this forum going back years and you'd know that I've said Adelaide is the best planned city in Australia with a huge potential to even be better thanks to the foresight of Col. Light.

Regarding sight lines at Hindmarsh Stadium go into the western stand right to the top tier and look down and see if you can see the touchline. Also from the first row (bottom row of seats) in the middle tier (not the raked seats close to touchline). Can you see the touchline from there? The outer stands are fine. They seem to have been done properly, but the western stand, the one that was remodelled from the old Mario Bailetti stand was not designed properly. Even the roof covers very little and is only there for looks and to cover the big knobs and the media but not the poor sods lower down. So is this what you want on the eastern side? Just asking.

Nobody who advocates for retaining Hindmarsh (football supporters) is saying it's a viable world cup venue, nor proposing that a (men's) world cup be hosted at an upgraded Hindmarsh. We're saying that it's a very, good venue for what we actually need. The only reason people keep bringing up the world cup is because they need that 'something' to 'prove' that a new big stadium is needed. For what it's worth, I made one miscalculation in my previous post abut 2030 being the next available world cup. This isn't actually correct because I forgot about the Qatar WC in 2022. FIFA's rotation policy for world cup hosts means that no confederation can host 2 from 3 most recent world cups. That means that as a member of the AFC, Australia is not eligible to even bid for 2026 or 2030 and the next available is therefore 2034. In 2030, the eligible confederations would be Europe (UEFA), South America (CONMEBOL), Africa (CAF) and good old Oceania (so maybe the Kiwis can have a crack )
