Has there any word on what will happen with the stores that used to be in the arcade? For example, will the newsagent be relocating or any space provided in the new design for some of the "old" businesses to return

Based on the upmarket tenants they are going for and the years it will be until it opens I'd say that's very unlikely.

The newsagent has said he won't be returning

Unlikely given the Mid-2023 completion date.

Curious to know whether Cheap as Chips might pop up elsewhere in the city, it was a pretty sizeable and well frequented store to be lost entirely without replacement.

The former Harris Scarfe or Spotlight spot in Rundle Mall Plaza maybe

RMP has been completely redeveloped with H&M and a food court occupying the old Harris Scarfe space on Level 1 and a yet-to-be tenanted health and wellbeing centre (whatever that is - but it appears to be a series of smaller spaces for medical or therapy services) on the old Spotlight floor (Level 2). Levels 3-6 are all office space. There's no unoccupied retail space other than a couple of very small units on the ground floor.

Some more demolition photos from today, 16 March, taken from the southeast corner (5th-floor Executor Trustee Building):

A Cheap As Chips would not be a good fit for Rundle Place. Rather the space stay vacant for a major retailer or reconfigured for other uses.

A real vision would have incorporated the old Southern Cross hotel into the design as well

The old Southern Cross hotel has barely anything remaining in that facade.

The Southern Cross Arcade was only built in the 70s (1974 according to this: https://www.samemory.sa.gov.au/site/pag ... 443&c=1205), replacing a much older hotel that was on the site. Another good photo of the original hotel here: https://i1.wp.com/timegents.com/wp-cont ... =736&ssl=1
