Cross streets don't need motorway access if we have a tunnel. All that needs to happen is the occasional connection between the surface st South Rd and the motorway.

I can't remember where I saw this, but I have seen some unique grade separation projects which involve putting traffic in one direction through a cut and cover tunnel, and then putting traffic in the opposite direction on an overpass which sits directly on top of and is supported by the tunnel structure, with the ramps to ground level at each end staggered to save ground level space.
We could just have a double decker cut and cover tunnel beneath the existing South Rd. It would easily fit in that land area. The tunnel may have to have bends to fit the staggered ramps.

Excuse the rushed photo, but the first beams are being assembled at R2P.

is there more layers of bitumen to go down in the trench at Darlington? when you enter the trench at the northern end when travelling south the surface has been scraped and there are large raised sections around the man hole covers of the inspection ports. doesn't look finished at all

Can’t remember where but recently read that lowered motorway is getting final surfacing done towards the end of the year.

The trench was fully opened on August 1st, I'd love to know what's taking them so long to do final surfacing.

Hopefully they'll also resurface other parts of South Road, the Daws Road to Darlington section in particular is absolutely terrible. T2D is not due to start construction for another four years, the current surfacing on South Road will not last that long.

The final layer will be SMA type asphalt and requires warmer temperatures to place.
Expect some action on this next month.

Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this?

did you get permission to take that photo?

Probably just for within the work site it self, might be safety related.
They cant stop you taking a photo or video from the road or footpaths.

I'm gonna guess it's because they have a contracted drone operator filming the project.

The workers probably don't want to get photographed, which is fair enough...

It's quite common on construction sites for photography to be forbidden. If for example hardhats are mandatory, yet I take a photo and someone isn't wearing one, and then something happens, it's possible my photo could be used as evidence for any potential follow up. Easier to have a blanket ban than to police the content of photos taken on site.

More regular drone flights would be something people would be interested in.

Cant remember if I suggested this from one of your previous videos, but perhaps slow the footage down on key areas like the bridge construction.
But other then that :applause:
